Talk about over hype, get to see cockpit of millennium falcon but where's the console at .. Again with face being smashed up against the glass feeling. And wtf was with the auto aim.
Something you can play while holding a cigarette or beer with your other hand. - You can't roll or even fly sideways - You guys realize half of that video is filled with non-game pre-rendered footage which does not represent what the actual game will look like - ..and the clips are cut in by a masterful editor so that they give the optimal 'hyped' image of the game. In reality it won't flow like that and it won't feel like that - When Millennium Falcon engages enemies at 1:30 you can see that the aim indicator is off of the target by almost 1.5 widths of the target (essentially every shot should be missing by a margin as big as the target itself) but the lasers home in on the target.
i've come to realize the only reason i "enjoy" these trailers is the sound effects. which are, admittedly, fantastic. then i once again notice that 90% of it is pre-rendered nonsense and the gameplay looks utterly ridiculous (holy auto-aim batman) and remember how much of a let-down this game has been since it was announced
man the graphics are so immersion breaking. it looks to shiney. and the latest rogue squadron games (all of the ones I played at least which was the first one for N64 then the 2 for gamecube/wii or just gamecube?) didn't feel broken with cutscenes. but I bet this will. actually it felt kinda broken anyways with the cutscenes.
TLDW - Flying feels like moving a mouse cursor. You can't roll, and the 180* flip turn (Koiagran Turn) is executed by pressing 1 directional button. Play is limited to 10v10 humans with 10 AI allies...
Not just the sounds but the final editing / cuts are superbly well done. I admire the skill of whoever were responsible for creating the video. Yup, what I said above. Just aim with mouse while holding a cigarette on the other hand and doesn't matter if you're drunk, the auto-aim will get them for you. Ultimately it's just people flying head on at each other in level flight and both sides hitting each other with auto-aim. Such dogfight. Very skillful. So excite. I actually went through every console dogfighting game I could find for PS and the only game that wasn't 3rd person without rolls and without auto-aim and without a button that just shoots missiles at everything. To be fair some of the games that focused on WW2 didn't have as many missiles but your average mission in these would be something like "destroy the enemy carrier task force with your machineguns lieutenant!" (2 minutes later) "GREAT JOB, here's a fricking medal". Actual life bars above Battleships going down (fast) as you gun away with .303's. Great stuff. "Only two more battleships! You're almost there! Have some auto-aim and instant-win button!" The only exception I could find over several days was Birds of Steel. It tried to offer an alternate realistic game mode but it received poor reviews. The poor reviews were poor for all the wrong reasons "they made it too hard" "they made it too realistic" "this is boring history channel stuff". Conclusion - even if not all people who play with consoles are retarded, it seems like console media and game companies assume they are. Hence when you try to find something else on them.. Then someone comes up with this Star Wars Battlefront and rapes both the infantry and dogfight modes beyond recognition.
which is funny because all the rogue squadron games had no auto aim. at least not that I remember. I know the first one didn't and the 2nd and third if they had auto aim you still had to pretty much be on target with the cursor to hit not meters off. and missiles? only had 6-12 depending on what they were (proton torpedos, concussion missiles) and what craft you were in. you could be in first person but it never felt right to me like cockpit view did in games like x-wing vs tie fighter. maybe it was controller (gamepad vs joystick)
fun gameplay for sure. even enjoyed the story in that game too if i remember correctly, pretty well written
I'm starting to wonder if EA operates under the "Any press is good press" mentality. I mean, this thread has 6 pages and some few thousand views... but it's looking to be a sorta shitty game overall.
I bet half the people have already pre-ordered it 'just in case'. EA, making games that people buy 'just in case they might be good'. Or because they watch a really well pieced together commercial filled with pre-rendered stuff and things that never take place during gameplay.
