well the y-wing one is easy to answer. because they were friggin old by the time of the clone wars. The rebel alliance was phasing them out during the rebellion (original trilogy) thus why they had the b-wings. why the monstrosities they had in TLJ? who knows. that design seemed like it was going backwards or meant for planetary duty. Actually with all those bombs it felt more like an empire or first order weapon (destroy everything and not minimize collateral).
Click bait title a little bit, its an analysis of the stupid bits of the movie, even though its enjoyable to watch if you aren't thinking about it.
I really don't understand all the hate on this movie. Sure there were some stupid parts and some they could have left out, but overall I thought it was ok. Not great, not even that good, but not bad, or deserving of all the hate. But I guess you could categorize me as a casual fan, not a super star wars nerd that pays attention to and rips apart every little detail.
Most of is probably because people don't understand this trilogy is about the end of the Skywalker dynasty. And that han, leia, luke were never meant to be main characters in this trilogy. If you look at it from rise of the Skywalkers/fall of Anakin (prequel trilogy), redemption of Anakin (original trilogy) and fall of the Skywalkers (sequel trilogy) ep 7 and 8 while not great make much more sense in the whole saga. I mean Ben is the only Skywalker left. Yes technically leia is alive still but (not counting Carrie Fisher not being with us anymore) probably won't or can't have anymore children. I actually kinda expect ben/Kylo den to die in episode 9. Also the hardcore fanboys wanted Luke to have a glorious ass kicking force using moment. And didn't get it. When he would have done that was probably 15-20 years before so 7. Didn't really like 7. Thought 8 was better but still not great. I kinda feel like Disney is rushing the Skywalker saga stuff so they can make star wars their own. All the non Skywalker stuff has been better quality to me.
I enjoyed The Last Jedi more than The Force Awakens. The Force Awakens just didn't seem at all intriguing or inspired, plot holes too big in places, Kylo too whiny, funny parts weren't so funny. The Last Jedi still had plot holes but more tolerable, the story carried itself better for me, Kylo was more grown up, and the humor was better. Felt like I had spent my movie ticket money better at The Last Jedi than at The Force Awakens, although I'll still take the originally-made trilogy at home any day
I sort of agree. I feel like the the second movie was a more original story even if the execution was meh. The Force Awakens just seemed like an uninspired "best hits" movie of all the things we've already seen. I guess it shouldn't be a surprise that TFA was better received by more Star Wars fans and by comparison TLJ felt like it was shitting upon the established lore by a great height. No wonder many fans hated the second movie so much.
I do kinda feel like Disney is rushing 7, 8, 9 so they can make star wars their own thing now. Like (aside from the battleground games) the non-sequel trilogy stuff has been pretty good. Though Solo will probably tank.
It's a little unfortunate that more original didn't mean good. It was just badly paced and didn't make much sense even in its own universe.
Well, it's Disney so probably they'll take extreme liberties with the plot of the original trilogy, add a girl who sings to wildlife. and call it their Original Content. (Do not steal!) Seriously don't. We have literally all of the lawyers.
Probably some digital mumbo jumbo with a flashback showing a 10 year old leia singing to wildlife on Alderaan
After watching TLJ, I can officially say that, unless the entire senior crew is swapped out, I will not be watching any more of the new flaming piles of garbage they make from this point on. I didn't like TFA but I could tolerate it. With TLJ, I couldn't shake the strong feeling that this entire movie was nothing but femanist propaganda being shoved down my eyeholes, a movie where the males just fuck everything up and the females wag their fingers, prove men are inferior and somehow use god damn force powers without training! This movie infuriated me and has now ruined any desire to watch the new shit (SHIT) any further for far more reasons than stated but me going further into it would bring spoilers.
I get that the triologies purpose out of the 3 trilogies is to be the downfall of the Skywalkers but that doesn't excuse them from (IMO) rushing it to make star wars there own thing away from lucas, social agenda crap, or just making the movies okay or terrible. Because of the movies so far only rogue one was decent. I feel like the sequel trilogy is a one and done no reason to buy it on DVD/blu-ray (if you enjoyed them). Han solo movie is probably going to be crap.
Good points overall, but the mystery box one is THE favourite of mine. Don't frigging' bend everything from iron rail. Leave some questions unanswered. Respect the intelligence of viewer (yeah, I know... modern audience etc etc...). Leave room for speculation and guessing. Pretty much all memorable films used this trick to stay in peoples minds for years.
The problem with the mystery box is when it's done poorly and predictably. JJ Abrams seems to like his mystery box, but when it's revealed its usually something stupid or contrived. Kind of like a real mystery box.
