I mean, I get it, she was also Anakin's kid and sure, she was force sensitive. But seriously, leave the Superman-level bullshit powers to DC.

Well yeah. But I don't care how powerful someone is. That should have required training. I mean doing that is different from say pulling a blaster out of a stormtroopers hand with no training in using the force. That's basically saying leia is more powerful than Luke with all his years of training.

And I believe (unless Disney screwed this up as well) that how strong someone is isn't just their connection to force (midiclorians though Disney may have retconned that tiny bit not sure), But also their training and understanding of the force.

Apparently in an interview with the actress who played the purple haired thot, she says that they had a discussion after the movie was finished and decided that the bitch was trained by Leia to use the force.

So anyone can use the force? Wait how did leia get trained if Luke didn't train her.

I have yet to see anything about how/where/when she was trained. At this point I'm gonna assume she's like Ray and "just can."

Disney has gendered the force for those that don’t know yet and it’s female.

So as such all females are born with full mastery of the force.

Uh wouldn't that mean most of the Jedi order in the old republic should have been mostly female? It should have been more 50/50 than the movies showed obviously.

Also I'm starting to think Kathleen Kennedy hates men.

Neither of you were explicitly targeted by this comment, so whether you fall into the purview of a vague generalization is quite irrelevant. Honestly I could play devil's advocate for days on this topic and it would likely amuse me to no end, but I won't because people have made up their minds not to like it and hey, it's a story, certain parts of it are great and other parts of it are awful, okay, I'm right there with you, but at the end of the day you determine whether you like it or not and what those reasons are and if enough people don't like it hard enough, maybe the people in charge of the thing will get the message. Or more likely, not, until it hits them in the wallet.

I will say this, it's been 30ish years since the end of the empire and people simply assume Luke never bothered to show Leia -anything- about the force, in 30 years? Seriously? She may never have formally trained, but that doesn't stop him from chatting with her about it, her watching him training other students, or doing some experimentation on the side. For 30 years. The things she explicitly did with the force aren't significantly more powerful than Luke did pulling up the ship in training, she force pulled the ship and being in a vacuum and weightless, was pulled to it, instead. You can assume she used the force to survive the decompression and effects in a vacuum, and odds are she did to some extent, but current understanding of the effects of space on the body are nothing like what Hollywood depicts, so for once maybe just maybe, Star Wars actually got it right, and all she really had to do was mute the effects of the blast.

You may or may not hate the porgs, but they exist simply because they could not get rid of the goddamn puffins on the island they went to film that scene on, so blame it on the fucking puffins :p

Even though Disney made them not canon the EU books actually explain why she didn't train in the force till much later. Because she was too busy being a senator and running off everywhere to put out galactic war fires.

Just the force being gendered female.

The female force users having mastery of the force from birth no. More of a observation.

You can see why Magnus and I would see you directing that comment towards us, right? Also, the fuck do you mean... "you people?!" :ulol:

Anyway, when it comes to the whole Leia Poppins scene, I really wish they had given some form of explanation and not have us assume anything. Something as subtle as an off hand comment from a crewman on the ship would've sufficed for me ffs. When the bridge got blown open and when you see Leia in space pulling herself to the ship, not once do you see any sign of fear or struggle or anything of the sort. It just looks like she knew everything was going to happen and that she would be just fine. That also kinda bothers me a bit.

Because no form of explanation happened and because of Ray's use of the force with no prior training whatsoever, I view the Leia Poppins scene with suspicion. Also, yes, the depiction of her being in space was, as far as I know, accurate. No gripe about that here, just the whole pulling the force outta her ass like Ray thing.

All that being said, this is one of the gripes I have that's lower on the totem pole.

I guess if it needs explanation using the force to move things is pretty much the very first thing you learn. I could see someone with natural talent and the wisdom of age but no actual training being able to move themselves just enough to get going a couple meters per second in a vacuum.

Which is all well and good, if it were relevant, but it's not. She left the senate according to the actual timeline before the destruction of Luke's temple, at which point even that spurious reasoning as to why is no longer relevant (and again, I mention several methods by which over the course of 30 years she could easily obtain a moderate use of the force without 'formal' training)

Also just accepting it like It's no big deal when she woke up afterwards. But yeah it is pretty low on the gripes list.

Ended up going to see it with my dad.

It’s not as bad as it could have as they contained most of the seriously cringe worthy stuff to the droid. I thought more of them would be along the lines of the droid in being “woke”.

A couple characters break the immersion as they seem more shoveled in then actually thought out.

Highly doubt a massive crime syndicate with ties to the sith would have trouble killing a 16 year old girl and her handful of goonies that have small arms blasters for weapons.

Or a stubby legged droid getting onto a console 2 feet high which is almost as tall as the droid.

Showed darth maul but only on a holoviewer.

haven't seen it but my mom did and she said the guy didn't act like Harrison Ford at all. Or even try. That may have been on purpose so he isn't compared to Ford
