They need to be build inside your territory. They are space stations that work like planets.
They are best for extra research and energy creds, but they can exploit resources of the planet they orbit too. If planet has minerals for example, the built habitat will have one tile with minerals.

So, wanted to change up how I've always experienced the game. I always played with Warp, but this time decided to try out Hyperlanes. Now, so that nobody had an advantage over anyone else, I mad a Large Galaxy with 4 spiral arms, random empire location, and all Hyperlane only. Started playing, got about an hour in(just around 100 years).... and the first empire I encounter is a Militant Fallen Empire. I'm like "Oh shit, let's not piss them off"

Too bad I encountered them just after I sent out a colony ship, to a standard Tropical world(my species perferred). They didn't like that too much, so decided to declare war on me. After rolling up to my capital with a 30k fleet, then occupying it, I wondered if it would affect the entire game from that point on.

I stopped the game and started a new one.

do not go the ai ascenaion route early. The cybernetic one. Because the spiritual fallen empire will probably declare war on you. By AI i mean the one to turn your empire into synthetics. You can get it early if you start with robots.

Makes sense spiritual FE comes after you if you start going down the synth path.
Though they shouldn't go full berzerk when you get the "Flesh is Weak", considering how fast you can get it with right build.
On bigger maps this can actually be limiting, as you have to make sure you don't shoot yourself in foot with Flesh is Weak if you haven't found all the FE's. Of course you can first concentrate on other perks that will support your synth nation later, but still...
Hopefully they'll tweak this a bit.

Coming to the end of my first playthrough. I started unity heavy, which helped get a lot of good perks, then I went super wide as the AI was strangely un-aggressive in gaining territory. I take up about 25% of the map, but I'm fairly pacifist so I'm not expanding. Now started habitats, etc, with heavy tech focus. Managed to get jump drives and end game weapons and the unbidden showed up. I then picked the 'kill the unbidden' perk, and just rolled them with on 70k fleet stack as I could take their fleets on one by one without losing more than 5k each time. It was a bit of a joke honestly. Now not sure how I want to end this, it seems tedious but 100% winnable.

So, I still have yet to beat this game. Last game I was a pacifist Egalitarian Materialist. I was doing reaally well with all of my neighbours, both hostile and freindly, until the Unbidden showed up... in a system right on my boarders. Suffice to say, I lost all of my colonies in short order, what with being flooded by 59k fleets when I only had one 55k fleet.

Now I started a new game. Hive Mind. Feels sorta shoved in there. A lot of the events aren't changed text wise for Hive Mind Empires.

Me and DW had to deal with awakened xenophile FE AND Unbidded at the same time. But we were rather lucky as the Unbidden spawned in awakened FE's territory. The ensuing battles weakened both of them quite nicely. Me and DW then rolled to the scene both with 80k fleets and DW with Defender of the Galaxy.

Unbidden were banished back whence they came, after which we immediately seized initiative and declared war on the awakened FE, rushed their home system and took their planets with masses of gene troopers and synth armies.

After getting our independence back we are building our fleets, to conquer two huge AI empires that occupy the other half of our galaxy. We have pretty much won at this point, but we are still doing clean up. Awekened are trying to rebuild but they can't catch up to us anymore.

    Current situation:

I'm in a dilemma. I'm a pacifist, meaning I can't start conquering wars. I'm near the end-game having killed the unbidden, so I can either win by having the most colonies, or having a big federation, or protectorates/vassals. But nobody wants to federate with me because I don't do wars of aggression. I have lots of allies with high opinion. I can't colonize, I can't federate, but I can't conquer. So, am I stuck doing wars of liberation, carving my friends into small pieces and then taking them as protectorates?

I think you can change government type and go on the warpath.

You're right, and wrong. I can change government types, but I can't change my ethics. I think there' s a way to promote a faction within your empire with different ethics, but it seems bugged as it claims I've already done it within the last 25 years (I haven't done it once)

I was getting there before I was wiped out by the Unbidden. I was contemplating just Reforming my government to no longer be pacifist. Going full in on one of the other two Traits I had.

I thought you could change your ethics. I haven't really looked at it though. I swear it gave me the option to change my government ethics.

The 4 outlined circles are my empire. I just colonized space not broken up through conquest. All the wars I have been in so far I have started and won. Also beat the unbidden pretty much by myself then colonized where they were (that is that bottommost territory). I am either going to start carving up the brown empire which will connect the 3 right territories Or go after the Gox (the green). A good number of the AI this game seem to be pacifist.

    DD69: Beyond Utopia

    The Adams Update
With Utopia and Banks now out, the next thing we have planned for you is the 1.6 'Adams' update. This update, named after Douglas Adams, is going to focus completely on bug fixing and quality of life changes, with no major feature additions and no accompanying paid DLC. Work on 1.6 actually started almost immediately after Banks/Utopia went into code freeze, and it already contains hundreds of bug fixes and usability/UI additions and tweaks. A particular focus of Adams has been to work on our backlog of old issues, taking care of many of the smaller issues and annoyances that have been present in the game since release. We've also made time for some of the things that were originally planned for Banks, but had to be cut due to time constraints. While I can't give you an exact release date for Adams yet, I can say that you shouldn't have to wait too long.

    Beyond Utopia
Back in Dev Diary #50, I listed a number of priorities for us going forward from Heinlein/Leviathans. A number of these things have since been added to the game, so I'm going to go ahead and list it again to give you an idea of where our focus will lie in future updates, expansions and story packs, with the items that are already completed noted with a strikethrough.

As before, THIS IS NOT AN EXHAUSTIVE OR FINAL LIST, AND NOTHING BELOW IS CERTAIN TO HAPPEN (unless it already did)!
    • Ship appearance that differs for each empire, so no two empires' ships look exactly the same.
    • More potential for empire customization, ability to build competitive 'tall' empires.
    • More story events and reactive narratives that give a sense of an unfolding story as you play.
    • Global food that can be shared between planets.
    • Ability to construct space habitats and ringworlds.
    • Factions that are proper interest groups with specific likes and dislikes and the potential to be a benefit to an empire instead of just being rebels.
    • Ability to set rights and obligations for particular species in your empire.
    • Deeper Federations that start out as loose alliances and can eventually be turned into single states through diplomatic manuevering.
    • Superweapons and planet killers.
    • More interesting mechanics for pre-FTL civilizations.
    • A 'galactic community' with interstellar politics and a 'space UN'.
    • Buildable Dreadnoughts and Titans.
    • Reworking the endgame crises to be more balanced against each other and the size/state of the galaxy.
    • Reworks to war to address the 'doomstacks' issue and make the strategic and tactical layers of warfare more interesting and less micro-intensive.
    • Deeper mechanics and unique portraits for synthetics.

With Utopia and Banks, we decided that rather than divide our focus, it was better to have the update and expansion focus almost exclusively on empire customization and internal politics, and this is the policy we intend to continue with for future expansions. As always, I can't tell you specifically what the next expansion, update or story pack is going to be about, but the above list should at least give you some ideas of where you can expect Stellaris to go in the future.

That's all for today! Next week we'll start going into specifics of the 1.6 'Adams' update so until then, I leave you with this picture of some of the free graphical content coming in Adams:

    Some more teasers from Twitter:

As shown, Adams will be about fixing and tweaking stuff and updating/adding visuals.
    Totally fine by me.
All the upcoming stuff look good, but I'm most interested about superweapons and dreadnaughts/titans. We need some proper endgame weapon systems to shake things up. Now it's just doomstacks baiting each other.

I kinda want the realistic ships mod to be added to the base game. The NSC one i like the ship classes but i feel that mod adds to much stuff. Because of all the station stuff it can do.

    Couple tidbits From todays Stream:

Hive minds will get "Devouring Swarm" civic in 1.6. It's what you'd expect. Tyranid/Zerg like malevolent hives that are out to consume all other live.
They'll get society research from eating alien pops and bonuses like innate hull regenaration.
In short, hive minds "Fanatic Purifier".

You'll also be able to find ruins of ancient megastructures in 1.6. This was supposed to be in Utopia/Banks but it didn't make it before code-freeze.
You can repair theses ruined megastructures for you own use if you have appropriate techs and they lay in your territory.
Allows you to skip several phases of building them by yourself.
Should also create some interesting territorial disputes.

5 planet empire taking on a 30 planet empire.
