I just bought this a few days ago and I'm really getting into it. Anyone else tried it or interested? It's a Lovecraftian MMORPG with elements of puzzle-solving mixed in. Some quests have you looking up Alternate Reality websites or wikipedia to solve riddles, while others are your more typical fetch/kill quests. The whole thing has a distinct occult/conspiracy flavor that's in everything from the environments to the story and dialogue. They have a classless deck-building system that reminds me of a free-form Guild Wars, where you can eventually learn every skill to mix and match for each situation. Half the fun is finding out new combinations, and there's a slick system in place so that you can save your decks and swap between them as-needed. The mixed blessing for me so far is everything in the first few areas is easy to solo, so it's bleak and lonely out there. That said, quests still go a lot faster if you team up, and there's potential here to create skill synergies between group members beyond the basics of "the trinity". There's no subscription, so once you pony up for the base game you're set, and there's a lot of meat here even without the additional expansions they've released.
My wife and I bought it at launch. It wasn't bad, but had some big issues from time to time. The biggest single thing is it got very hard to solo. After you get one class where you want it, the others are alright to work on, but it felt you "finished the game" a little early. My group had a blast through Egypt, but we never went to Transylvania. Side Note: We had a blog about it while we were playing. http://www.lordrcane.com
It is on sale on Steam for 14.99 right now until Nov 1. Just FYI The game + all the DLC is 29.99. I am thinking about picking it up. I enjoyed the beta, but I did not want to pay a monthly fee.
Nice to see you last night! Same as my usual MW:O times, depending on my mood... these days thats 4-6pm or 8-10pm CST when I have time.
Yeah, we moved pretty fast. Bit of a conundrum as the game is usually best enjoyed when you have time to watch the videos, take in the storyline/atmosphere, and collect/read the lore. They do a nice job setting everything up. On the other hand, when you're rolling quests/dungeons for loot and XP there's not much time to stop and smell the flowers! I'd roll it again with some other new players to slow the pace down and give yourself more of a challenge if you want the full experience. If you have an experienced/geared up tank or healer you'll still have a pretty easy run-through, but at a more typical pace for your gear. There are some hell-related dungeons that have kind of a cool story arc if you pay attention and learn more about Theodore Wicker (NPC).
Just a quick bump for my flavor of the month... If you're interested in trying this out or picking it back up again look me up. I'm still enjoying the "end-game" gear grind and you can group with players of any level to do missions and story content. Happy to lend a hand or answer questions!
