And don't forget to collect your trading cards of your sexual conquest.

the Witcher series kind of has a reputation to uphold, but to be fair, the source material wasn't any better about that sort of thing.

Depends. In the games before there were some borderline's (witches, for example) that you could either sex OR kill, but usually not both.

But holy hell, a game set in medieval Europe is GOING TO BE MISOGYNISTIC if you want it to be in any way reflecting reality of the time. I'm all for equality and shit, but you can't whitewash a setting purely to be politically correct. Its like people bitching about movie characters being misogynistic when they're the bad guy, or have a character flaw. Just because a character has a flaw doesn't mean you advocate for that belief... fucking ridiculous.

But yea the sex cards are kinda weird.

so i played through most of the 1st one back in the day before getting distracted by something else that i don't remember, never made it to the 2nd though i have it in my steam library. obviously isnt required to play those before 3 but how essential will it be story-wise? likewise do they have a save game carry-over mechanic like they did from 1 to 2?

No, not required. They're pretty self contained stories. They do help with background and context, like what the Wild Hunt is, some of the characters, etc.

It's nothing to get excited about, but the U.S. Director's Cut version had the censorship removed.

I would say that the Witcher 2 is definitely worth a play if you like the setting, but neither the first nor second will be required to understand what happens in the third game. For example, Ciri has almost no mention in the previous games, but is a central figure in preceding books and the third game.

However, it is worth mentioning that decisions made in the previous game will supposedly have some impact in the third (the same is true for the second game).

If you've got time this week, Pidian, I'd highly suggest playing at least the beginning of 2. I felt like 2 really explained the Scoia'tel and some of the Witcher lore pretty well in the beginning. The game is good, but the ending is absolute trash. If you get through the siege part, it's pretty forgettable after that. Maybe a 15-20 hr investment to get to that point unless you are one to do ALL THE THINGS.

I liked the setting well enough but I found Geralt to be just an awful protagonist.

he starts off as a bit of a blank slate in the first one (had his memory wiped... long story). i think the second game was better written. lots of political intrigue (sometimes hard to follow, but i like that stuff)... and the third one seems to be building on that.

there is also going to be some really awkward feelings when his first love, Yennifer, shows up and Geralt will have to choose between her and his loyal "accomplice", Tris.

But it gets better than that... Tris and Yennifer were close friends and while Geralt lost his memory of Yennifer (for a time), Tris never did. She's been banging Geralt this whole time knowing all along the truth, but never outright telling him. Not out of spite, either. She just legitimately loves him and can't bear to face the truth. Like I said... it's complicated. :)

Also, Saskia is easily my favorite character in all of the games
(careful about looking her up if you don't want spoilers).

I hope we see her again in the third one.:yum:

Sex on a stuffed Unicorn... that's reason enough to buy and play a video game.

Be careful bro. First you think it's okay to have sex on a stuffed unicorn, then the next you know it's sex with a stuffed unicorn. You don't want to start down that road.
