A new i5 is not the same as an old i5.. but you are right it should be fine. I can recommend the GTX 970. I am getting between 40 and 60FPS on ultra.

After restarting my PC everything works fine now. So strange but so rewarding.

just found "Moonblade", an extremely powerful silver sword for early game, at the bottom of the river north of Lindenvale in Velen. for those that are interested. you will have to brave some drowners, but look for a sunken boat with an odd green glow and a treasure chest next to it. i recommend diving off a boat rather than from shore.

protip: it definitely pays to check out undiscovered locations if you are short of cash, equipment, or supplies. I think all the equipment i use has come from items i picked up off the ground. save your orens for crafting blueprints, materials you need, and other rare items.

I know this is going to sound crazy Dihm, but I can tell you right now those cards can't run the game (I had the same setup and according to everyone that should barely run the game on LOW graphics)

As for my consistent crashes, there seems to be some sort of issue with the 900 series that is cause lock ups... I've seen about 50 different fixes, but none have worked perfectly so far (I still get to play for 5-6 hours, but I do consistently lock up when I open up a book in my inventory).

All bad things aside, I fucking love this game.

So far the best gear has come from checking out the random locations on the first map, found super solid lvl 1 silver and steel (viper witcher) schematics, only issue is they cost like 800 gold and I don't even have close to that.

Just finished the first area, now in the first 'big' area.

that'll run your stuff just fine for a few years. Power supply may be overkill tho. I've been looking at sales for the 4690k

Could drop for to a 650 and save $30. Is that enough if I end up getting a second 290x?

Not a PSU expert so I can't say on that specifically... www.reddit.com/r/buildapc is where I usually get my advice from.

If you're planning on a second card I'd stick with 850W. 650W would be fine for a single.

I didn't think about it until I saw this but when I was having crash issues the game was set on borderless window, after optimizing with the new driver and restarting the PC it defaulted to fullscreen and I didn't have any more problems.

You really do not need a CPU cooler, I have my 3.4Ghz overclocked to 4Ghz on the stock cooler with no issues. I would stay away from Rosewill stuff, it is on the cheap end, and you do not want to cheap out on the PSU imo. I am not very familiar with ASRock stuff, I know they spun off of Asus as competition to Foxconn years ago, but I do not know how their quality is. I would stick with an MSI or Gigabyte motherboard personally.

For the video card... I have been an AMD/ATI supporter for YEARS, but recently they have let me down time after time. Their drivers are really getting to the point they are shit. I had two 7950s that I replaced with a GTX970, taking a performance loss simply because of all of the issues I had with the drivers and stability. You are lucky if you get a driver release from AMD every 6 months, and even then it will probably be a beta release. I am not sure I can go back to supporting AMD on their graphics cards any more, I just don't think they have the software to back it up.

I just put this together and it comes out to 960.64 after rebates and discounts:

IF I limit it to Amazon, B&H and Newegg it is $1002. I would also look into a Samsung 850 SSD if you do not already have an SSD.

Can you reuse your current CD/DVD writer? That would drop it under a grand.

Anyone want to subsidize my purchase and get a Witcher 3 or Batman key for $40 each?
