Battletech (PC Strategy Game)

Well damn.

 

I'm going pretty slow at this game in terms of story progression, but just did the

Spoiler

lostech vault mission. Pretty fun switch up at the end getting to roll with the assault mechs. My personal lance was 2 thunderbolts, an Orion and a treb, which pretty much melts everything with LRMs. I one shotted all the drones in the first half the mission, cake walk. Although I aaaalmost lost Kamea on that one because they just focus fired the shit out of her during the second half. The highlander was a nice bonus

 

I'm only or 3 missions ahead. I'm going slow too... even I think I'm at 300 days.

I find the game a bit more interesting in the small / medium fights, more positioning and speed. Once you get to assaults you pretty much stand in a line and alpha strike over and over again, and use terrain to LRM alpha strike while they can't.

 

Appears paradox is buying HBS. I think. No idea what is happening.

 

Yea just read that. The statement was basically paradox is buying them, paradox is handling finances, marketing, publishing, etc, and HBS will a semi-stand alone dev shops, but obviously paradox is going to control what they work on. Could be good for future Battletech DLC and sequels, but remains to be seen if HBS will be anything like it is today in a few years after running under a different company's control.

 

My newest gripe, the forced time in between story missions. I understand its a mechanic to make sure you build up your lance, but I played a bit front heavy and I'm steam rolling these missions with highlander / orion / thunderbolt comboes and it would be nice to not HAVE to wait for the next story mission.

 

I don't mind it but having recently finished the main story I would have liked a longer campaign. It is long enough but just didn't quite feel as epic as the amazing cut scenes would imply. Still looking forward to further dlc/expansions though! It is a blast to play.

 

Big 1.1 patch out today with some changes to make large lasers more viable and reduce LRM stability damage spam. Adding a few other tweaks and difficulty options, too.
