Now that I think about it. In any other game (even tabletop) making a mech just be single or double seems more like an ease of use/speed up building mechs decision. I don't see any reason you couldn't mix heatsinks now skeleton would all probably have to be the same. Same with armor.

I always thought it was a mechanical tolerance issue. It would be like having two different types of brake pads; sure you can do it, but its begging for increased mechanical failure. Generally speaking, you want a cooling system that uses the same components across the system.

Of course doubles might not be in and they made them to play around with for future games.

well you gotta think expanding this game would be fucking cake. And I don't mean like "oh we only have to change 5 things" easy. We know they already have every PGI mech in the game. so thats all the clanners so far, and all the IS mechs, plus a couple PGI mechs that havn't been in other games. They already have a way to build maps, we have played on 6 of them and seen 7 more in vids/screens. All they have to do to make a "clan" version of the game is write a script (easy enough with writers already on team), draw up some splash screens with new info, and unlock mechs and weapons to fit the timeline. They could do this at almost any point in the timeline from....2950-3068. Once you are outside that timeline you need to add some things, but if you stay inside that 100 or so years they need add hardly anything to the game.

I think I read somewhere from one of the many people going through the files that the marauder and warhammer files were in the beta and done just they were turned off. Now because of the harmony gold thing I don't expect those files to be in the release of the game but they (hairbrained) can just release them as a patch once the shenanigans are over since they are done.

If you are a Beta Backer, note that you will need to retrieve your Launch Key from your BackerKit account - the Beta version of the game will NOT automatically update to the final version.

Keys available a few days before launch, which I read as 1-2 days prior

    Yep.

When will I get my game key?
Game keys will be delivered to BackerKit accounts a day or so before launch. We will send another update announcing that distribution of keys into accounts has begun.

Also I believe you may have to remake your backerkit account. I don't remember the reason why but it only remembers accounts for a few days. I think it was a storage thing.

Probably just get the key before everyone else. Doesn't mean they get the live game. They also haven't even really said anything about preloading.

Let me rephrase. I think that is just saying when backers get their key and that the beta key doesn't transfer. If you preordered on steam you already have your key it just isn't activated. Technically at least.

I expect the game to have probably some DLC and then sequels, very much like Shadowrun. Although the core game is very easily extendable with new storylines because its basically a sandbox combat situation anyway. Doing a whole 'nother merc crew would be a bit more work though with the whole drop ship piece. Fighting vs clans would be pretty easy, being a clan would require a overhaul of some of the mechanics, probably still having to worry about logistics and support but not really the pay (maybe substitute for honor or something) aspect and being able to pick your next offensive targets based on objectives.

Man some people on the battletech forums are set on us only 4 mechs on a mission. But then why would HBS state the fighter bays on the dropship had been converted to mech bays. Specifically mech bays. So it can carry 6 mechs total. Now it may be a reinforcement mechanic, you start with the 4 on the ground and can call in 1 or 2 later.

Because there aren't any doors for the extra 2 mechbays.

Maybe they have doors on the bottom, so they drop out?

Well that is how mechs do aerial drops since i think the doors on the sides are ramps. Be silly if mechs walked out the side to drop. It could also be just one cavernous bay. But if they were for more salvage wouldn't they just be cargo bays? Not specified as mech bays.

    • Upkeep costs for mechs are the same across all chassis sizes, reasoning provided by Kiva is to not punish the players for using larger mechs (it's already more costly to maintain the larger mechs by virtue of more expensive parts being used).
