All three rulers are dead. Viper king is just annoying. Berserker and archon rulers are actually deadly. Also free actions are your friend against rulers because they dont count as a soldier action. So you can attack twice before the ruler moves again if you do it right. So sharpshooters with lightning hands could be useful. Also shadow chamber wont say if there is a ruler in the mission (if you havent killed them before you get it)

If anyone else is way behind on their gaming like me, and still haven't picked up/played XCOM 2. GMG has it for 33% off +20% off with voucher 20OFF. Makes it 32 bucks. :glee:

Just a heads up, they have officially launched Long War 2 as of a week or so back. There are a few games I've been wanting to get to, but I think I may put them on hold and fire up the Avenger once more.

Last campaign Sheo and Pidian carried pretty hard; I'd like to see if any other Borg members can rise to their level of badassitude.

Wooo! Saw the initial 'we're doing it soon' update but I didn't think they meant that soon.

It has some things in it that conflict with LW2 atm, I tried to use it in my play through but couldn't.

Mine kept giving me red-screen errors that wouldn't go away until I removed it from my files and reinstalled the game completely afterwards, dunno what I did wrong then.

Probably, I did get rid of all the cosmetic mods I had before hand. So that is likely the reason.

Is it just me or are the Mutons broken? They seem to ignore the fact that my soldiers have cover and still hit. The only time I've ever seen a muton miss is when I can get them with a flashbang.

They are very accurate in LW2, you need a lot of negative modifiers on them to make them miss.

So I have been playing a new LW2 campaign... so far I have 3 teams of 6 (though generally they only deploy around 4-5 members) Consisting of mainly Borg Members/My previous campaigns XCOM team.

Oh the Borg squadron, the Dihm/Don/Skwis/Pharoah team is my wrecking Crew... Dihm is wandering around in Short Plaid shorts smoking a cigar, shooting up aliens with an M60 and gutting them with a knife when they get to close. Don is a master of the M4 Carbine but isn't afaid to drop a muton with Both Barrels of his sidearm. Skwis is more akin to long shot things with his Barret .50. Pharoah seems to be the only sane member, but also the only nerd.

The other teams have worked out well, and trevor keeps getting bounced between them to use is Rocket Launcher of doom.

Despite my excitement, I hadn't really had time to get a LW2 campagin going until this weekend. I already picked up Smokey, Dihm, Damion, and Tuna right away during the first mission (which went flawlessly). I also happened to pick up Emily Wood- my MVP from my Ironman Commander win. We're off to a good start.

Now I really need to make a team of SPARKS. Was going through the voicepacks on the steam workshop and people have done the HK from the old republic games. but someone has done megatron. and optimus.

9 seconds will make you get megatrons.

I love how in the optimus prime vid they have the song from the 80s movie going. Also is a starscream voicepack. And I think the guy said he was doing soundwave and bumblebee. I do see an autobot pack with bumblebee, ratchet and arcee

The Shieldwall has been brought into the resistance more completely. While the squad rosters are not reflective of their actual membership, I thought it would be a cool way to divide them up. I essentially ran with the original concepts (as viewed by me) tied to each of the groups. I haven't run a ton of missions yet, so the group compositions themselves are only partially-realized.

The Huscarls are my cannon-fodder group. It's where I toss new recruits to get them some combat experience, and it's kinda like my JV, all-purpose, combat group. I usually just pick about 5 of them when they're needed and off they go. The Huscarls have seen the most casualties by far at present- probably due to their low-experience levels compared to their peers. I think, in time, they'll get a decent core though. None of the actual Borg characters are in this group right now.

The Drakjagare are my stealthy infiltration team. I honestly don't intend to expand it beyond The Shinobi and Specialist that are in there now. The intent is to use them almost exclusively on the quick VIP rescue/ data hacking missions. I've run a few like that so far, and they've been able to get in and out without causing hardly any disruption or even firing a shot in a couple of cases.

The Svinfylking are my bruisers. I intend to run them as a heavy squad when subtlety is less necessary during a mission. When I've sent them out it's been eight at a time, and it's been a steamroller. Their composition is still in flux while I get some rotational troops ranked up to sub for the injured when I roll. This is where most of the Borg members have ended up so far.

The Brohirrim are my kill-squad. I've been using them when I want to run a 4-5 man mission that is well-rounded and prepared to get their hands dirty. Basically they're used in the same way I use the Huscarls- but the Brohirrim are much better at it. At the moment it's Smokey, Dihm, Trevor, Sheo, and Pidian, and they do some heavy lifting. Trevor is my Shinobi scout that roams out and helps gather intel. Smokey is the vanguard of the squad's attack force as an Assault. Dihm provides mid-range support and heavy firepower as a Gunner, and then Sheo and Pidian bring the heavy weapons and demolitions as the Technical and Grenadier respectively.

It really is a great time. The structure of the campaign, in my opinion, feels far more like a guerilla war that you're waging against the alien forces.

In addition to the breaking out and expansion of classes and roles, it does this in two main ways: squad management and infiltration. Squad management, as seen above, allows you to seperate your troops into multiple groups so that can run ops simultaneously. This becomes necessary because of the infiltration mechanic.

Infiltration acts off the idea that intel needs to be gathered before running an op. A transport will drop a squad off at an insertion point when you first deploy to a mission, but you rarely initiate the mission right then. Instead, you spend a variable amount of time (usually at least a few days) gathering intel. Factors like the size of the squad, classes of soldiers, and equipment they carry all influence how long it takes to fully infiltrate a mission.

The incentive to doing so is that the more you infiltrate a mission the lighter the resistance becomes. If you run in without any infiltration, then you're likely to face 2-3 times the opposition. You can't use a squad that is actively infiltrating without aborting the mission, so you need multiple squads in order to tackle multiple missions. It isn't uncommon to have a few squads infiltrating seperate ops simultaneously.

All of that to say- it's awesome. Start a campaign.

I did end making the frag grenades do a bit more damage and have a larger radius. Which since they are limited and the radius actually makes me think a little more since i might end up killing a squad member (no more close support grenades). Or objective (if it is a vip mission). Only other change i made was adding upgrade slots to the bolt caster.

does long war crash when any of the new enemy classes are in or the portal reinforcements are coming for anyone else?
