I like the Zabusa arc, really that was the only good part of the first segment of Naruto with the 'Believe it' Naruto that was so incredibly obnoxious, I liked it more later on when the sobering truth of things started to sink in and he really had to sink his teeth into his whole 'Ninja way' or be the fool he always acted.

I think the Zabuza arc is one of the best out of any shounen anime, and it's actually in fact the "some reason" that I'm even bothering with the sequel. It's one of the rare cases where the gulf in power between the villain and the heroes isn't (and can't be) resolved by training or some asspull eleventh hour superpower bullshit. Naruto and Sasuke beat Zabuza by subterfuge, and then Kakashi finishes him with mind games. It's the epitome of what ninja ought to be. I only wish the rest of the show stuck to that formula.

Never enjoyed the small bits of Naruto I skimmed off Adult Swim because most of it was too... "shonen" for me, but that sounds pretty badass.

That fight starts at episode seven and goes for a couple more. If you like that the big showdown with the bad guy of this arc starts just a few episodes later. Honestly I think you could watch this plus the chunin exam which starts immediately after and get 90% of the good parts of this show.

pretty much, the series, for me, got much better later on, but for the first major story arc this pretty much covers the good bits.

There's some really good stuff later on but it gets really sporadic. Honestly after the first couple arcs you just hafta like the show enough to force yourself to power through the bullshit to get to the good bits, and there's like a thousand friggin' episodes worth of bullshit.

I cancelled my Hulu sub so cant watch that link. To be honest, I never really enjoyed the long-drawn out, multiple episode fights in anime. There always seemed to be too much standing around talking about what someone was doing. It is like nails on a chalkboard for me... but again, I hate almost all shonen. Also, it's hard for me to sit down and watch a series when I have to cherry pick the "good parts". There's just so many other things I'd rather be doing/watching.

Ah, yeah. This was when they were still covering a couple issues of the manga per episode so they fill the time with relevant stuff instead of just 20 minutes of screaming, but it is still one of those talking is a free action shows.

That made me chuckle. So true.

I think I also tend to gravitate towards shows that have a very distinct beginning, middle, and end. It's much easier to absorb shorter series in general. I think most shows I've liked only had one or two seasons.

That being said, I finally caught on to the insanity that is the "Jojo experience"... so the genre isn't completely lost to me.:glee:

Wait, there legit is a show called "Boruto"??? I thought that was what people were calling Naruto nowadays cause they're tired of the franchise...

Maybe I really am too old for anime...

I wouldn't go that far. There's only one rule about anime you need to remember: "Most anime is shit." This has less to do with the medium itself and more to do with the industry that continuously cranks out shitty (but profitable) content to meet the groping feverish demands of adolescents (their primary demographic).

That being said, a quick google search such as "good anime for adults" can lead the way to some genuine entertainment:
    • Cowboy Bebop
    • Ghost In The Shell
    • Paranoia Agent
    • Monster
    • Moribito
    • Jin-Roh
    • Eden of The East
    • Tokyo Godfathers
There are way more than I can list, but here's one article on the matter:
    https://www.thoughtco.com/great-anime-series-for-adult-viewers-145149
(I disagree with some choices on the list; Speed Grapher has an ick-factor I didn't enjoy)

What is notable about anime made for adults is that it is far more prolific than what you see in other forms of animation. Most successful western animation geared towards adults is based around comedy and generally features much lower quality animation and stories.

Anime, by comparison has FAR more variety in terms of tone, visuals and stories to be told.

I would go so far as to argue that anime as a medium has much greater variety of visuals than even live-action cinema. Some of it works and some of it falls flat, but the fact remains that everything is only limited by the creativity of the artists. There are some visuals that are made all the more incredible when you realize someone made them by hand. Want to see something truly incredible you've never seen before? Anime probably has you covered.

As critical as I am about anime (and I still stand firm that "most" anime is shit), there are enough good stories that keep me coming back to the medium. It's mostly just a matter of knowing where to look.

    For those that use crunchyroll.

They recently released a Japanese Danmachi game that they reworked for the English market. They originally said there wouldn’t be censorship, and advertising as such. Well the game released with things being censored.

They eventually made a official comment saying that it isn’t censorship and that the material is just inappropriate for the English market. If people want to play the uncensored game to go play the Japanese version.

Crunchyroll has lost most of its credibility in the English anime market now as they mainly do streaming.

    A video on the subject

Innapropriate for the English market? But we have game of thrones.

I'm not really a huge fan of overt fanservice or outright hentai. I actually abandoned Crunchyroll not long ago in favor of Funimation as the latter had more English dubs available for shows I wanted to watch. Not to say I won't watch subtitles, but good dubs are more convenient when done right.

I have no interest in the game. The problem is people are promised one thing and bought it because of such and it turned out to be another. Which how long before it’s done to anime they find inappropriate.

And like Fet said. We have game of thrones which is literally soft core porn with dragons, magic, and sword fighting. The books being far worse with all the rape and some of it to children.

Another is fifty shades of gray which is rape fantasy fetish stuff. The main guy has a literal rape dungeon.

Yeah. That stuff is why they aged all the stark kids (minus Rob and jon) for the show at least 4 years. That would not have gone over well if they had kept the kids at the same age they are in the books. Sansa is 11 in the first book. But for the show she was 14 or 15 at the start.

Also there is the walking dead which is not on a premium channel and possibly even gorier then GOT so I don't know how crunchyroll can say something is inappropriate.
