Tonight on MechWarrior.....

Francois and Kazuko were not answering communications, but the group decided to do some research anyway.

After purchasing a low end vehicle from Bob's Imports, they proceeded to sneak into the E&B Mercantile warehouse..... which was empty. As Kielk and Yoshihiro explored the abandoned warehouse, they realized it was set to be detonated. Running for their lives, they were able to escape with only minor cuts and bruises.

A pickup truck then headed to the Spaceport, being chased by our heroes. After a minor exchange of gunfire, the truck lost control and hit a building. Only one person, the driver, survived, but needed immediate medical attention. The Mercenaries showed up quickly, taking the driver into custody.

The Colonel insisted on a priority meeting in the morning. What will this do for our heroes?

Today in MechWarrior.....

The crew meets with the Colonel to discuss the problems they are facing.

The Colonel gives them an option, after reviewing the information they have acquired. Face charges of trespassing, burglary, arson, manslaughter, and possibly others..... Or review a computer that the Colonel doesn't know exists, containing information that he would not have access too, to determine where the pirates went. All off the record, of course.

After serious discussion, the group decides to retrieve the information on the computer, revealing that the pirates headed either for Star's End (a known pirate system) or Icar (a Fedcom system with an entire regiment as garrison). Evidence clearly points to Star's End, but there are other possibilities.

The biggest problem facing the party would then be transportation. Who has a jumpship and dropship they can use to chase after potential pirates?

Enter Kuldane Stormhold.... wealthy merchant from the Commonwealth. With his Gazelle class dropship (named Stormhold) and his Merchant class jumpship (named Giant), Kuldane hires the crew to help him track down the pirates and their cohorts in Edge and Beyond to retrieve some weaponry that E&B claimed to have lost and was paid for in insurance... before this current situation.

Tonight on MechWarrior....

The party takes to the stars in pursuit of the pirates of Star's End.

The system is 2 jumps away, so stopping at a pirate point to avoid an ambush, the party immediately detects an enemy war fleet recharging and preparing for a massive invasion.

These unknown forces identify themselves as something called Clan Wolf.

In order to avoid capture and enslavement as a bondsman (whatever it is), Kuldane makes the crucial decision to supercharge the sails and jump with the KF drive at a dangerous condition.

The jump succeeds, but the KF drive is damaged during the jump. The party arrives in an unknown system and repairs on the KF drive look bleak....

To resupply the ship, while mechanics work on the KF drive, the party heads to the only habitable planet in the system and makes contact with the locals who are using a traditional radio comm system. The natives are apparently a group of Buddhist monks who have fled the Inner Sphere (specifically the Draconis Combine) to avoid the wars and destruction of about 500 years ago. They are happy to work with the party, as long as they are peaceful. Speaking with the high priest, abbot, ubermonk, or whatever appropriate title, they learn that much of their technology was placed on the moon and out of their reach, to avoid temptation.

So the party heads to the moon... there they find a station with a breathable atmosphere, another docked dropship, and the suspense of having to wait....

Moderate update, based on some research...

The group of monks fled the rapidly forming Draconis Combine when war broke out with Rasalhague in the 2340s.

The dropship the party sees on the moon facility is a Vulture class troop transport.

The KF drive failure has been diagnosed... and it is much worse than originally feared.

The drive is repairable, the results of the drive malfunction is not.

The year is 2762.... Yes, almost 300 years before the date the party left on their adventure.

Our resident historian has pointed out the upcoming events, including the assassination of the First Lord by Stefan Amaris and the costly battle to retake Terra and the Exodus.

Can our brave adventurers find profit in saving humanity from these horrifying events? Is it even possible?

I realized in accounting class today that our c-bills are worth jack crap before the founding of comstar.

 

Add to that that any banking institution that you were working with has no records of your existence... yeah.
Which brings me to Kuldane's speech:

Kuldane stands before the collected party and the captains of the jumpship "Giant" and dropships "Stormhold" and "Raven" and speaks:

"Ladies and Gentlemen,
We have an interesting problem and unique opportunity.

The problem is that we have verified and reverified our star charts and have concluded that we are on a planet roughly 30 light years between the Edge and Star's End. However, we are also in the year 2762. This means that everyone we have ever known will not exist for over 200 years. We have no identity, for we have not been born, nor have our grandparents. We have no company to work with, as they have no idea who we are. We have no financial backing, because our deposits have never been made. We are alone.

We are also here, according to history, prior to the bloodiest centuries mankind has ever seen. History states that the Star League will fall. Stefan Amaris will murder the last First Lord, Richard Cameron. He will overthrow the government and create a civil war that kills untold billions. And that is just the tip of the iceberg. You and I have grown up in a world that has been at war for almost 300 years. The events of the next few years set all of this in motion. We have the potential to change history, to make life better for the human race, to avoid the Succession Wars. And to become insanely wealthy in the process, if we do this correctly.

I dream of returning home, like I'm sure you do as well. But the impossible circumstances that brought us to this time and place are not repeatable. The dream of returning is impossible. We all have a choice to make in what our future now holds.

I promised you payment equivalent to a MechWarrior, and I will see that payment rendered. However, in order to facilitate that, we must take the few trade goods we have and maximize their effectiveness. We have that potential while we head in whichever direction beckons us. For summary, these are our options:

First, we can retire peacefully on this planet. There is food here and a definite lack of violence. It would make a suitable home for those who are weary of the 300 years of war about to engulf the galaxy.

Second, we can move toward Terra and try to prevent the worst of what is to come. We know that Amaris will kill Richard Cameron in the very near future. Whether we can make it in time to prevent this event, I cannot say, but we can burn toward Terra and trade along the way, trying to prevent the very first of these events.

Lastly, we can attempt to locate General Kerensky and aid him in the upcoming war. There is profit to be made here as well, as we trade our way to his location and work with the military as an independent contractor.

In any event, we have two dropships and a jumpship capable of transporting them. The future is now ours to determine. Only we know what has happened, what should happen, and what can be done to prevent this, if we choose.
