I've been playing it for a few hours now, and I'm not impressed. The story and setting is good, but the graphics are average at best and the game play is like playing an outdated FPS.

Disappointed to hear the bad reviews, maybe I'll wait till it goes on sale again before buying.

Well I spent some time playing this today.

It is not as bad as all the reviews it’s getting, I’m wondering if this big review gaming sites are panning it to be cool.

Anyway the game is solid enough the story line and plot fit into the Aliens well enough. The console versions have some issues I been reading with the graphics. I not noticed any bugs with the pc version. As far as pc gaming goes it has to be one of the few games that has been released pretty much bug free.

The game does look dated however, and there is nothing new or grounding breaking about the game. If the game was released 3 years ago then it would have got ratings of 9+ by these game review sites. Aliens colonial Marines is like playing a 3 year old game in every aspect.

If you’re into the whole aliens franchise then you will enjoy it, if you’re not too into the whole aliens thing then wait to its on sale.

The recent farcry3 really did up the level of single player gaming on the pc. Aliens does nothing to improve on that.

Well, hate to say it but this is exactly what I feared. As usual, someone takes the Aliens franchise as source material, craps a game out and tries to make money from it. Exactly the same recipe as the last game they churned out.

It is a fupping shame because you won't find a bigger fan of the movies, or AVP gold than me. All they needed to do was make huge levels which were open rather than linear. Make the AI half sensible and not glitchy. And lastly, give the game a decent graphics package. It really is simple.

Instead we get a dodgy console port and gameplay which is mediocre at best; something that even some bad ass texture pack mod can't sort.

The thought of controlling an Alien in 3rd person brings me out in a cold sweat. The thought of piss weak human vs human combat in the campaign strikes me as laughable, this game can't 'out call of duty', call of duty.

I only hope no one has splashed out a lot of cash by pre-buying the DLC or something daft like that.

Seriously, you guys want to have a laugh? Come play AVP gold on steam.

How sad is it that when this happens you are honestly surprised? I think this is the single biggest problem plaguing the industry. Good for gearbox on at least getting that part right.

My understanding on the campaign combat is that it is dynamic... as in not truly scripted. Aliens will come at you along different paths each playthrough. I might be wrong or overestimating it, but that feature may explain some of the apparent AI pathfinding issues (they aren't great, but not bad so far as i can tell).

the reviews I've been reading all say this is hilariously bad, and I have to say, from the gameplay videos I've watched I agree.

It really is not as bad as you guys are making it. It is not Far Cry 3, it is not a super modern shooter. I will grant you that. However, if you like the Alien universe, I think you will have fun with it and appreciate it.

I've just now completed Aliens Colonial Marines, in barely 5 hours! 5 hours of boring outdated FPS, with boring weapon, upgrades, lousy graphics, unmemorable characters, Zzzz cut scenes & just AWFUL "Boss" fights.
And the worst part is, the ending clearly suggests there will be a another game..... please don't.
so I've just wasted 5 hours of my life on this horrible piece of crap, and I've spent money on it.

Now to the positive side of the game.
Hmm well as Manco said it is nearly bug free (tho facehuggers got stuck under the eggs & walls) but no game breakers.
The story and reference to the Aliens movie was cool.

Rating 3/10 and a  I was really hoping this was gonna be good as I'm a huge fan of the movies and the alien universe.

If you like horror shooter games try out the Dead Space series.

if you have no emotional investment in dead space try it after they release the anthology or whatever that includes everything for one reasonable price. i'm sure the game is very good, but don't support EA's byzantine marketing strategies.

(i haven't played more than 30 mins of CM so far so i'm reserving my judgement on it)

Well Just a update, i been playing the coop campaign with 3 friends on the badass setting, hardest setting, and we have been having alot of fun with it. the AI of the aliens is good enough to keep you on your toes. As a coop game it is alot of fun and runs very smooth.

My own personal experience with this game as far of rating goes, I give it a 6/10. Im not to fussed about the outdated graphics, there good enough and the game does get better once you land on the planet. One thing hard to understand though, six years in development and this is what they offer ????

I have personal experience with this. There are many factors involved in development (as you are probably aware of) and a lot of reasons why this stuff can happen. Sometimes it is a small team and it just takes awhile. Sometimes the product is mismanaged and passed through various hands before getting finished (Duke Nukem Forever). Sometimes the game stagnates for years where not that many programmers (or none at all) are doing anything with it. I suspect that this game may have fallen victim to the last reason. It would definitely explain the outdated look. This game comes off to me as something that almost became vaporware, but somebody believed in it enough to finish it, regardless of what the implications might be. It might also help explain why it apparently came without bugs. They must have been sitting on it for awhile. It certainly doesn't appear like it went through a last minute rush of development. Again.. just my suspicion.

When you get into the Multiplayer part, unlock a bit of upgrades for the alien, I myself run a Shotgun Spitter (The spitter is the Aliens ranged Unit) that explodes when it gets killed, Definetly the Multiplayer part of the game I've enjoyed the most, Even with the clonky wallcrawling.

Update. The Challange system is rather annoying. Some of them are Rather hard to complete, And you have to complete them before moving on to the next. I am currently stuck on a Challange where I have to Pounce 3 enemies within 10 seconds, Which in it self is rather tough, but having marines fire upon you the minute you jump on someone. Yeah.
It would have been much mopre nice if you could do all the challanges, And not do One challange then Unlock the next. >.<

I love Aliens, but I think I'll continue my trend of buying year old games on the Steam sales for 75% off and play it then. LOL
I still have 4 games I have not even installed yet. ><

If you want a tense as hell Aliens-related experience, I can still recommend the 1999/2000 Aliens Vs. Predator. No saves, tense atmosphere, and lethal aliens. The marines campaign was very well done and the other two aren't half bad.
