I'm envious to you because you spoke to him, I'm envious to him because he gets to work on something so cool and am envious to him for his skills and team.

Am happy that I'll get to back and play this game and it sounds FANTASTIC! Proper single player to start with and add other stuff later if they can. That's the way to go! Finally a great mech game that I can play...

    :awesome:

You know sheep, why don't you whore out your connection to Dihm and see if he can convince Jordan to hire you and your employees to help on the project? I sure as shit would. Then again, I am a whore.

I wrote a resume here but then I started wondering if this was the part of forum that was open or not and it contained all sorts of personal details like my computer password and where I was last night.

I'll ask Dihm. Not that I were a good programmer, not that I had any publications except for a virtual city under my belt, can't easily relocate myself but I am quite cheap! Really cheap and I work hard. Sometimes I even solve problems that I've created earlier.

What's the worst that can happen, they say no? Now what's the best that could happen? They say yes, you and your company lands a potential goldmine of a project, Battletech becomes a smash hit and you and your companies names become huge overnight?

I'd say the minimal risk of asking is worth the enormous potential reward.

Dihm, get this man the gig!

I read an interview in regards to this. Thought you might like it:

Person Interviewed: Mike McCaine, Creative director HBS. Co-directing battletech game with Jordan Weisman.

Relation to MWO?: For the most part we are using the same mech models. Like Shadowrun its a single player game. Its a mercenary style game where you manage a mercenary outfit. You upgrade your mechwarriors and your battlemechs. It's a turn based game.

Turn based tactical combat, you will control a lance of 4 battlemechs.

We are looking at multiplayer as a strechgoal. We would like to have PVP arenas on the planet of Solaris.

Is the game using the same graphics/engine as Shadowrun?:

-No, we are building something completely new in Unity 5. It will be a fully 3D title.

Will your characters die like in shadowrun?:

-Were as Shadowrun is an RPG with turn based Tactical Combat, Battletech will be a turn based Tactical Combat game, with RPG elements. While Shadowrun was focused on personal stories this game will be more focused on the story of the world and the great houses.

When does this game take place?:

-3025 post 3rd succession war. In the slow boil period leading up to the 4th succession war. A time of "Peace" but with a lot of stuff going on under the table. A perfect setting for a mercenary team to secretly work for the great houses, while they publicly deny any actions against each other.

How long have you been working on this?:

-We've been talking about it for a few months. We're early in prototyping still. Still fleshing out the look and feel of the world, gearing up for the kickstarter over the next few months.

What do you mean that this will be a PC game?:

-We will be focused on the PC, that of course also means Mac, and most likely Linux as well.

    Who is the target audience?:

Same as Shadowrun we want to make sure that we do the franchise and the setting justice. We want to make this game for Hardcore Battletech fans. While also trying to freshen the look of battlech and get back to the feudal roots of the story. We want the game to appeal to anyone that is a fan of turn-based tactical battles as well as giant robots.

Nice. Although having a bit more than 4 mechs would be great, but its also a matter of control. If they bring in like support functions like air strikes, etc, that may work also.

But having a PVP mode in a campaign setting would be awesome, or having multiple people control 1 mech each would be even better for the long run. But I'll take single-player to start if its a cool campaign.

I'm with Tuon on this. Is it everything we want? Not at this point. But it is a good start that is desperately needed.

Sounds all good to me. Nice choice of timeline too.
Limiting scale to lance level is good in my opinion. Especially if they are going for very detailed character development and mech customization.

I like the single player. It means that for a change this might be a game that I might be able to play. People take online games so seriously that the challenge level is too much, they cheat by exploiting things that are against the spirit of the game but haven't been blocked out because that's a lot of work for devs to create special rules like that and because those rules often backfire being worse than the thing they're trying to fix.

Not that it wouldn't be cool to play something like this online but that itself would make it a whole different game in every sense.

For instance, no pause during online game. No such a thing as taking a sip from your mug etc. and the personality of opponents ranges from outright assholes to great people. Also, single player allows for very short sessions whenever you have time and you can play 20 minutes here and there through day. Online game is instantly ruined if you have to take a single break during first 20 minutes.

So yea, all in for the single player option. If they can add multiplayer later, I don't mind but I also don't expect to benefit from it.

unless devs are asshats who make it so there is an autosave/checkpoint system but no user save function? i hate those games because it's all "shit I need to go to bed (or whatever) but I have to keep playing till the next checkpoint" and you can't always pause these games. usually it's only third person shooter games that do it. some even when you hit the escape key which usually pauses the game it doesn't.
