I'm really looking forward to this map. It's huge and the terrain looks great. It have potential for so many different scenarios.
And it's awesome, wish I had cash lying around and time right now. I spent a few minutes last week just flying about in the F-15C, shot down a couple of helicopters without remembering the buttons, just mashing everything and accidentally getting the right modes on. Flew under a bridge too and buzzed around a city, flew along the main road as long as I could. Not a single crash either. One of the Russian helicopters though started hovering in response to my attack. It's kind of annoying when they do that by a hillside - I flew past it fast and soon afterwards it crashed on it's own. I don't think the game supports any jet wash or wake turbulence that would destabilize the helicopter.
My first aerial victory over the Su-27 with cannons in F-15C. I had to actually spend a few days at school just browsing through theory and such since I really can't fly much at all. Still I didn't get to his six but I'll take a victory any day in any way I can after being butchered a bunch of time by them.
I'd like to check out the IL-2 series, both the Great Battles series and Tobruk. Is there anything in there that I should avoid?
I don't know that much about Tobruk so i can't answer about that. However for the Great Battles series i think all of them are good and you won't go wrong with any of them. Really depends on which you find interesting.
I am more or less interested in every release in the great battles series. I was thinking of starting with flying circus and the tanks one and playing them until I have more money early next year, or just waiting until then and buying the whole series at once. I just wanted to make sure there are no packages in the series that should be avoided. I've heard that wildly different levels of quality and realism are a big problem with some other games like this one.
I've gotten to the point that I have so many unused or underused modules between DCS and IL2 that I only pick up new ones when there is a large discount. Unless it is something that I am really excited for and want to really support with a preorder such as the Viggen and the Tomcat were, I'll wait a year or so and then get it when there is a larger discount during one of the multitude of sales that take place.
Yeah, there were a bunch of them on a decent enough sale. I am missing Normandy and some collector planes and bought just about everything else.
Some updates! Cyprus is getting added to the Syrian map Here is the cockpit and an external shot of the upcoming Mirage F1 External shot of the upcoming Mi-24P Hind Cockpit for the upcoming Mosquito FB Mk. VI Last, we have an external shot of the upcomig OH-58 Kiowa Warrior
DCS is doing a winter sale on their website that will run to 11th January. On Steam the sale will start on the 22nd and end on 5th January and during this time they will also run a free to play event. Most modules will be 50% off. Some modules are 30% off and a few are ordinary price.
Man, if I had the energy it would be fun to create a couple of scenarios around FAF vs Soviet Air Forces and FAF vs Russian Air Force. Setting up would be a lot of work but the good side would be that from the FAF perspective those would be some very short campaigns!
