Haha! So true. I'm just glad to be finally having fun again with our MWO Monday nights. I hope they do a better job of releasing MW5 and not try to turn it into something its not.
I don't see the SKjaldborg joining a larger alliance of multiple gaming groups being a problem, honestly. I cannot give you an "official ruling" at this time, but as long as our members are having fun and abiding by the CoC, it should be fine... and there is nothing currently to indicate that our involvement in Crowfall violates any of that.

There is some merit to the idea, of course it also has the potential to hairball rather viciously under the wrong circumstances. We currently have everything we need to begin a guild and set up our own kingdom (I believe) but until such a time as we have all the information, it's a little early to start worrying about such things. That doesn't mean we -can't- recruit, obviously if you're in the game and you meet a cool dude (or dudette) feel free to throw them a link.
    (related to previous comments)
Also from what I understand, the game isn't going to be entirely PvP oriented, that's simply one aspect of the game. And of course it's the easiest to implement which is why all the gameplay to date has been PvP. The shards are supposed to be able to be spawned under a wide range of rulesets and difficulties, I'm personally hoping that they cover both sides of the coin and all the shades of grey in between. Hopefully they'll do so in a dynamic enough way that it's not a simple matter of 'you have to play X way if you want to succeed' and of course with the shards setup if something starts sliding too dramatically down that rabbit hole they can simply change the rules ^.^ Kinda like Warframe, if something starts becoming too meta the devs (who actually give a shit about the game) add something new, change it, or modify everything else so you have to rethink things, they're also great about keeping their hands away from the nerf bat.

For the record, we were never exactly White Knights for PGI, if that is the implication. See the fallout with Russ and Paul from my criticism for reference. And falling out with the NGNG crew. And falling out internally with our own members.

Crowfall has potential but I have struggled to understand any sort of timeline from them on when it might actually be a 'thing', much like Star Citizen. We ran in to trouble with MWO on this early on, but we overcame it because we were a single game focused group and we used MW4 as our proxy until Beta came out. Honestly, the nebulous development scale of SC is causing trouble too.

So essentially, having a plan and goals are good things, and fitting those in to what we are redefining ourselves yet again as a gaming community, key. We're trying to do that for Elite. We need to cycle back and do it for SC and MWO

One last thing I would like to point out as it does indirectly concern Crowfall: my main reason for focusing on Elite at this time is twofold:

First, the game has a more "complete" experience than any of these other titles. In different ways, Elite offers something that these other games currently lack in terms of breadth and/or depth. This is not to say these other games can't be great, it is just that Elite at this stage is a more "mature and complete" game. This completeness is ideal for building a community around. I also believe that those players attracted to Elite are typically the kind of player we want to recruit; mature and casual, but not afraid of intensely engrossing experiences... somewhere in-between, really.

Second, I believe our efforts in Elite's faction warfare will be good organizational practice for our future efforts in Star Citizen and even Crowfall. We've been out of practice for some time. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither was any successful gaming community, particularly in regards to faction warfare. I'm hoping to build a foundation that others can replicate or modify. I believe that the kind of success I'm looking for with Elite will directly translate to helping any future games that hold our interest.

    So in summary...
My recommendation for Crowfall is along the lines of what Dihm said earlier: if you want to recruit for Crowfall, you need to find a surrogate "finished" game that will hold your player's appetite until Crowfall is out. Dihm did it with MW4 for MWO. I'm doing it with Elite for Star Citizen. It needs to hold your playerbase's attention until the game you really want is out in a form that can stand on its own.

So it's massive update day today, things coming down the pipe are:

    1) races and archetypes are decoupled. Not all combos are possible but most will be.

    2) crazy amount of skills

    3) graphics upgrade... Looking good.

    Time to pick guild stuff,
    Got this email:

You are one of the first 100 people to get to pick your Guild Name (and Crest) in Crowfall! (this is being done in the date order of backing/purchase)

    The key info:

Short Guild Name is the unique name and is what will show in game

Long Guild Name is not unique

Once you make a Guild Name and/or Guild Crest, it’s locked, no do-overs! (when we add new content to the crest creator, we'll re-enable your ability to remake your crest, and this will happen at least once before launch)

Everyone can see the extended Guild Colors and Symbols, but only can use them on your Crest if you have that option on your account.

While we are allowing the purchase of new Guild Name options, they won't be able to create their Guild Name until all the previous purchasers reserve their names. We'll be doing this over the next month in the order of people backing/buying the guild option.

Custom Crests will also come later in development (for those of you with that reward). You can make a normal crest now and replace it with a Custom Crest later.

Guild names are first come, first serve. We will honor valid trademarks if we get an appropriate notice to do so.

If you have any issues please contact support@crowfall.com. Being first you get to help us find and fix all the rough edges on this process.

All you need to do is go to https://crowfall.com/en/guild/ and click on CREATE NEW GUILD near the top of the page.

Thanks for your help and your support for Crowfall!

    Gordon Walton

    Co-Founder

    ArtCraft Entertainment, Inc.

P.S. I'll be sending out a mass email to all 2,000+ guild name holders once we make sure this process is working well to warn people this is coming and to watch for the day they will be enabled to get their Guild Name.

Alright, it has been done. If y'all post your usernames for crowfall here I'll send invites.

Edit: also need to work on heraldry design if anyone has ideas.

Well hell, I completely overlooked this. I'm signing up. What's an affiliate code for registering an account on the site? Is that like a referral from one of you guys or a for members of the press.

Holy shit, Tzeentch wasn't taken as an account name yet. I literally can't believe it.

So yeah, Tzeentch is my account name for guild invite.

Also: I propose the community's GTA V emblem currently in use as the heraldry for this game... feaec541dc6603a7b94afde1b7db8bff7168ecff_512.png

Cool! Sent you an invite. Also, the heraldry design is pretty limited. It's basically a two-color shield design option with a single emblem from a list of options in a third color. I'm guessing the primary shield colors should be that blue and green, the what color for the emblem and what emblem? Seemed like the most fitting was crossed axes.

Can we see the lower right with the lower left's colours?

Edit: the third image with the second image's colors.

BTW, Blue represents Sky, Green the Earth. So keep that in mind when designing your Heraldry.

If they ever allow custom emblems, my vote is totally for this.

EDIT: I also want to make note. There's a guild called Flammable Marmots.... that is all.

we've got the package with custom emblems, so should be able to get what we like, however personally I feel the standard Skjaldborg heraldry to be more fitting for this game than in most, maybe we could just add the tribal bit to the background XD
