Did anyone else think that Fallout 3 felt tiny? I hope this one actually has a sense of scale

felt tiny because it was mainly open space from what I remember. If there are no major physical factors in view the sense of scale goes down. It was big but it wasn't that big if I remember.

Thats the other problem I have with Fallouts that Bethesda designs. They try to jam pack every square inch of space with something to do. But I can walk 5 feet from a friendly robot to a murderous pack of bandits, but apparently these guys never leave their assigned 5 ft square space so its not an issue. They need to expand their size, push out the settlements a little and give a little more deadspace between to just wander, there is no way a desolate post-apocalyptic wasteland can support the population density they have in those games, plus its just aggravating that every five inches you get someone who wants to kill you. Really? You live that close to everyone else but everyone still shoots on sight?

EDIT: Now I'm just ranting about my pet peeves about those games. I do like them overall, there as just some engine and game design items that I REALLY have issues with.

I did. I played it after I played New Vegas and it felt a lot smaller. I definitely preferred the wide open feel of NV more, it felt more like a deserted post-nuclear wasteland with spots of civilizations.

The city aspect can be cool if the city is actually explorable, not limited like DC was in 3. And for goodness sake don't turn the whole thing into a warzone crawling with super mutants.

Who needs games when it's possible to visit Boston?

Better yet, go live in Boston. Boston is a city and it must be great, why else would so many people live there?

And there's stuff too! Can you say that about other places?

As for Boston fans, totally no other city on this planet has fans, sports clubs or such toting their love for their city. Another unique aspect about Boston!

Among all the cities that are incredibly average and share almost everything with each other except for location and name and current size, Boston truly stands apart. It's truly so special that to use word 'city' does injustice to it. Luckily we don't have to invent a new name for such a special city, we can simply refer to it as .. 'Boston'. It is a quality in itself that can be said of some of the other cities that might try to separate themselves from the rest by being unique, such a thing could be measured by how 'Boston' a city is, though no other city can be quite Boston for that would be absurd to even think of.

in post apocalyptic environments there is only one shade of color, dull medium earth colors such as dirt, and dirt... and occasional sand and rock.

Fallout 3 was big, but still felt cramped because of the map design in the city itself. Too often, there was only one way to go, and then there were all the subway tunnels...

When there is color, it actually feels kinda special and a stark contrast to the eroded and worn out endless sand of the otherwise barren dead landscape.

    Colors without a mod!? :omg:

Fallout 3 felt grey no matter where you went. NV was similar, but there were a few patches of color here and there. Which made sense since it was a post-apocalyptic desert. Although a post-apocalyptic rainbow desert could be interesting...

I actually thought it was weird how even the Strip seemed washed out and dull. You would think that one place at least would be really colorful, but no.

All the colors remind me a bit of Fallout 2's New Reno, best place in the game.

I suppose several decades of sand-blowing that follows being burnt by nuclear fire and no one maintaining the paint works can make any scenery a bit dull.

But of course with Fallout it's also an intentional art choice more than just perfectly explainable thing.

Also everyone seems to have a *perfect* mohawk cut and everyone dresses like punks. For instance Fallout 1&2 I liked that some people had actually taken up to using some of all that clothing left behind by hundreds of millions of now perished people, also using things like military gear and military armor because no one else is using them and since they're built for combat.

As opposed to everyone having brown-black punk clothes and mohawks. Everyone. It's like they caught some weird virus that spread it.

And for nitpicking I never liked Bethesda's attempts to bring in their Fantasy RPG shit over to Fallout. You probably know the shit I'm referring to. I know some peeps really dig their Fantasy but it's not like this world isn't fucking shooting fantasy titles from every fucking crevace you turn to.

I really, really like the games too.

But it just feels incredibly lazy that every single fucking garden shack is loaded as a separate instance, people spawn in 15meter radius from the door, falling from sky etc and the issues you already mentioned.

Yea, but a new tactics would be a 3rd person squad shooter like Mass Effect. Don't know how I'd feel about that.
