Legend of Grimrock Releases TODAY! I'm super excited.
Nice little 20 minute "review" of the game.
I was weened on these kinds of games, and earlier iterations like Bard's Tale that didn't have the "active" combat. I think we still have the original maps that my father, Chris, and I made on graph paper for the Bard's Tale series.
Oooooo you can actually disable the automap? That sounds like my kind of fun. When I played Skyrim I turned up the opacity on the region and local maps so I couldn't see and/or fast travel. Took a lot longer to get through but I regret nothing.
$15, not sure if you can still get the pre-order 20% discount or not (brings it down to $11.99) 10-15 hours to do a playthrough, it sounds like. And yes, I'm debating if I should do "Old School" mode or not Sardonic.
EXCEL!? Blasphemy. I'll swipe a squared notebook from work. Nothing more "fun" than realizing you started your mapping in the wrong part of the page and having it run over the edges.
How do you set yours up? What sort of annotation do you use? I imagine you just go in and add borders to the cell for "walls" and add short acronyms in as text for various notes. For some reason this is making me want to play HeroQuest.
You pretty much hit the nail on the head. I don't do anything crazy fancy. I just go out and widen the borders to represent walls, if I feel there is anything in particular of note in the room I make a little mark in the cell based on a system I have. Any necessary details can be written if I feel it's pertinent; but generally speaking I just rely on those basic marks and the coloring options to widen things up as needed. Examples: * - locked door # - Trap !- Secret Passage $ - Loot ~ = Key
I'm loving it so far, only got to level 3 before our game sesh. NOTE: Give the spear to your Rogue. Makes life much easier. Also, throwing knives are da bomb, I put that in his other hand.
unfortunately, I didn't start the download till 5 minutes before i had to leave for work...so its gonna have to wait till friday night when I get up..(on a double today mid-4pm)
