Next backer build in March. Full release delayed till September 2019. Not because the game won't be finished. Sounds like it is on track to be finished content wise for date they wanted but they are delaying to release a more big free game.

release date is now december 3rd (it is epic games though). But if you backed before the move to epic games you get the season pass for free. So you will get the first 5 planned DLC. xbox one version in Q1 2020 and a PS4 edition in late 2020 (probably about the time it comes to steam).

I did back (and didn't refund). since it can apparently be played without the epic game store (can move it out of the epic directory and uninstall epic) i am considering doing that.

My question is how does it improve upon Xcom 2? I really enjoyed Xcom 2, but I never actually finished it. Does Phoenix actually surpass it?

Last backer build I played you could actually use your mouse to control where your soldiers fired (in a cone). Or just use the system that xcom has with the percentage. Pheonix Point also has vehicles you can use. As in APCs (haven't played any of those backer builds. And I don't want to download Epic just for a backer build. The full game maybe.) And I believe a ton more factions than xcom ever had.

Also I think nearly everything is cover (so a stack of crates your soldier is behind but not up against) still provides cover. And pretty much everything is destructible. I can't saying about the base building since the backer builds I did play didn't have them in yet. The base building is in the current ones.

So I think many of the mechanics you wish were in xcom 2 are in Phoenix point.

Seems like they actually put the money from epic to good use as well. While another company that shall not be named probably is using the money to pay bills.

paying the bills is technically a good use for money. Not paying bills can have rather dire consequences on a company level. That said though, I don't want to punish the developers for accepting Epic bribery. I want to punish Epic for unreasonable conditions for said bribery. One year exclusivity is unacceptable and cannot be allowed to go unpunished lest others follow suit. Maybe I'm wrong, if enough people are willing to pay those jackasses I guess it's not unacceptable, but I'm certainly not going to be one of them that gives them a single motherfucking dime. No matter how much I want to play this game, or any other that has accepted the terms of their bribery. Fuck them with the horse they rode in on.

Well the lawsuit against epic games (something about them not warning parents fortnite could be so addictive.) Might cause them to slow down on the exclusives. Probably parents are concerned about the amount of money kids are spending on fortnite. And I guess some are playing so much they don't eat, sleep, hygiene (shower, bathroom and so). Yeah this new lawsuit is alleging fortnite is as addictive and harmful as cocaine.

Unlikely as one is unrelated to the other, they might not be so free with their money if they're forced to pay out a huge sum but otherwise it'll probably teach them nothing except how to properly label their product to avoid future lawsuits. There's also no real way you could sue them for acquiring the exclusive, it's the game maker that broke contract, such as it is, and they can account their end by providing a refund. It's a shitty way to do business, but it's not illegal.

Meant. If they have to shell out money (might become a class action). They might not be so free with their money for exclusive. Not getting a lawsuit over exclusives. I don't know if there are any grounds for that.

I really don't think it's necessary to beat a dead horse... especially here of all places. Let's stay on topic please.

Finally got around to downloading backer build 5 (sadly that meant I had to make a EGS account and download it). I remember reading something about epic games doesn't need to be open to launch games? Well that's a lie. I launched PP (EGS not running) and it started up EGS. Haven't attempted moving PP folder out ( might need to be release version) for it to work as a standalone yet.

With xcom 2 if you felt like you needed mods (especially long war or similar mods) Phoenix point even in the backer build seems to have most of that. I only played 20-30 minutes last night. There is an actual inventory system for the troops (as in not slots like xcom had). So troops could carry multiple med kits. Ammo is actually limited. Troops have to carry extra ammo in their backpack. I believe they can directly access someone else's inventory in mission (Soldier A is carrying extra ammo for all classes and Soldier B gets ammo from A). Attacking you can tab between targets but you can zoom in and control it like an FPS (weapons fire is in a cone) but target specific body parts of the enemy. Bleeding, disabling (or even blowing off) limbs, destroy weapons. And that can happen to your soldiers as well. There is encumbrance depending on inventory. Soldier level up seems to be you actually pick where the points go (strength, Will [special action] and speed).

Also I backed before the Epic exclusive announcement. And did think about refund. But then snapshot said backers will also get a steam or GoG key (I think it's a choice) and all the first year DLC for free. So the Season pass. Which is 5 DLC.
