I'm interested in the game, but only in private servers too. Public is sorta pointless due to the PKers at least how it is now in testing. Sure sorta fun to hide from everyone trying to find loot/food/water, but gets old after dying over and over. LOL I have my fingers crossed it will get better as they get closer to release.
I wouldn't mind giving it a whirl. I stayed away from Dayz cause I heard everyone was a gigantic ass hat, but a private server would be a good way to try it out.
That'd be awesome. Finally I place where I can play to gather stuff without getting sniped in an instant. XD... There was this one instance the other week where I first started playing, and kept hearing this pinging noise for 5 minutes while jerking around on the roof of a school. Then I finally got shot by what was probably the world's worst sniper, considering most of those 5 minutes I was standing almost perfectly still wondering what that pinging noise (ricocheting bullets if you haven't figured it out by now) was and looking around my computer.
It seems there is some interest in acquiring our own server. So the next step is to find someone with the bandwidth capacity to actually host this server. I propose Axe as he has a 100/100 connection (haven't talked to him about it though). With a passworded European server even our American friends would be able to play without severe ping issues. I did some reading and apparently they require you to rent a server that allows at least 40 people. The price for such a server is about $25 or £30 (or 89p per player) a month, which is not too bad if split among the people that have expressed interest. It would seem our best bet would be to set up a private hive. If we use an official server we would not be able to password protect our server or doing almost anything at all actually. I am trying to find out how to proceed with launching a so called private hive, will report back when I got something.
I think we get some free hosting with our packages. The three times I've been in game it has been better, but I've ended up being shot at quite a bit. The way the sound is you can't really tell where it is coming from. LOL At last I got killed by a zombie finally, sure it was invisible, but hey better than being ganked at spawn. =] They are taking some steps to clear up the massive amounts of sniper rifles, so maybe they can get it sorted out eventually.
If we host a private hive server it will be completely free as it will run from my computer. I think this is the better way to go since you are not allowed to password official servers, I've had some success in setting it up but I ran into some small issues which I am trying to resolve now. In the end the server will probably run from Axe's place since he has a better connection than I do. But I will keep this thread updated and eventually post server info and password here.
+1 to "Yes Please " I'm not really interested in the game unless it's on a private server, after experience of public.
I'd be interested, but only if we leave it unlocked... Locking a server and playing Dayz where everyone is friendly gets lame quickly as well - Zombies don't pose much of a challenge.
What I thought we might try is to divide us into two or three different factions depending on the amount of players that would be interested in such a setup. I know for a fact that Axe will kill everything he sees. Even if that sounds unappealing I would suggest that we keep it locked, at least for a start. Typing on phone is hard.
If we had enough people for 2 teams and some sort of victory condition, I would be okay with locking it. Maybe a scavenger hunt with a start/end date and points for certain items?
There are so many better FPS games to play TDM with, I do not see the point of playing it in WarZ. If it is not locked, I do not really see what the purpose of having a private server is.
Control to reset the server as needed/desired, Kick cheaters/undesireables as needed, prevent hackers from spawning in loot on other servers and brining it onto our private hive. I agree that complete deathmatch PvP that has taken over the game will be it's downfall, but playing it as an entirely PvE game is not challenging in the least either.
We'll keep it password protected as a start, then we might open it up if we feel like it. Anyway, I hit a dead end while trying to set it up, it possibly has to do with my router configurations so I'm sending the laptop to Axe's place and he'll have a look at it and attempt to set it up. Hopefully it will be up tomorrow night GMT.
