Unsurprisingly, I spent far too much time designing an alien race before actually doing anything else in game.

Allow me to introduce The Aiselian Covenant:

    upload_2016-5-13_2-7-40.png

I literally haven't played the game at all, so I can't say (nor do I really care) whether or not the traits and whatnot have decent synergy. The race's backstory that I head-canoned took priority over all of that.

It's too late for me to start anything up tonight, but I'll jump into it tomorrow.

Yay salary! I got it immediately.

This looks a lot better than I could've thought. Oh my! Amazing!

So glad. Expect to see those hours climb up pretty fast with this one! :)

Interface is really, really smooth and smart. Lots of polish and thought has gone into making this work so well.

I raise my hat to Paradox and thank them. THANKYE!

    Finally something to play... :viking:

I've successfully taught myself how to make and install basic mods

This version only includes ship names and the portrait, but the system is easy enough to learn. I'm fairly certain I can make events, traits, and other things as well.

I get the feeling my people don't really like xeno scum.

It's insane how good they made this game.
Already right from the launcher menu you get dragged in, immersed into the universe and mood.

    It's really quite amazing.

Also, what is this? Someone doesn't dumb down everything to mobile levels and actually goes through the effort to finish a game and make it good before pushing it out?

What is this nonsense? You're not supposed to make games great, you're supposed to make them crap, hold back on core features, sell the game as packages totaling 200$ and rely on marketing tricks to sell it despite huge flaws in the actual game.

Clearly Paradox are an antiquated company reminiscent of the 90's Dark Ages when heretics made full packages for gamers to enjoy.

note to self, starting a war with somebody, just becasue you need access to their boards for a quest... not such a good idea, if they have more ships than you.

    Did it go like this?
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paraguayan_War

I wonder if Paraguay had a quest to take a specific Brazil city or "win a battle against Brazil".
Turned out to be a really, really bad idea.

I unfortunately, was not in a position to charge in immediately... it took multiple tries and failures before I finally managed to beat them... with a 25,000 strong fleet no less.

What is cool though is that during my war with them, I started off with conventional weapons, but over the course of fighting them, I was able to reverse engineer their own weaponry and use it against them:
    • Matter Disintigrator = comparable, but pretty much better than normal railguns in every single way (has 50% penetration of shields AND armor); best used on everything except battleships as their average range makes them less effective with slow ships
    • Tachyon Lance = extremely powerful long range weapon (with 100% penetration against armor); best used on battleships as again, they are too slow to use shorter range weaponry effectively
To be fair, I can't be *certain* both of these were unlocked for research by killing Unbidden... but I certainly did not notice them until after I had started fighting the Unbidden. I'm interested to know if there is a complete tech tree somewhere that shows everything.

    -EDIT-
    speaking of Tech Tree...

Integrating a vassal is ridiculously, ridiculously slow. 1400 months? Fuck. And in the meantime I'm bored out of my mind, I can't integrate more than one at a time and being in a federation taking on enemies and taking all their planets is utterly time consuming. Plus people now hate me for my threat level, so i'm literally just waiting for time to pass by.

    Thought this was really cool:

You can see what I had to deal with (the Unbidden) at ~1:35. :)

Also, more info on different warp drives:
    http://www.stellariswiki.com/FTL

    Also, more regarding Wormhole Drives:

Now having been in a major offensive and defensive war I can say with confidence the following... Wormhole Drives are ideal for offensive wars.

The reason for this is simple. If your wormhole generators get taken out, your ships are effectively stranded. Therefore, you want to keep your opponent on the defensive. This will keep them tied up and away from your vulnerable wormhole generators.

If you are fighting a faction with WH drives, your best defense is actually a full press attack into their territory. If you take out all of their wormhole generators, you will have effectively stranded their entire fleet. If you blockade their home systems, you can then go about picking off their entire navy.

Perhaps easier said than done... but it's certainly better than trying to catch an uncatchable enemy.

Now I realize why I was getting my ass kicked so much by those attacking WH fleets... I should have taken the war on the offensive.

I have really been enjoying myself with this game. Figured I'd share an update of my progress, since everyone else is.

I just got done with a brutal and protracted war that lasted the better part of a century. Below I have outlined my alliance in yellow. We've managed to do pretty well for ourselves. As of the time of this writing, we are, by far, the uncontested military power of the galaxy. Green has the next largest fleet, and he's sitting on about 26k total after the bloodbath that ensued. All in right now, I'm over 60k with room to grow; I just need to get some energy credits coming in again so that I can afford the upkeep.

About one hundred years ago we had our backs against the wall:

Everything outlined in red was, formerly, a single empire and my largest personal rival. We waged war against our Northern neighbors 3-4 times, each time demanding that they liberate a few planets at a time. If you take a look at it now you'll see that they've effectively been dissolved into roughly a dozen different groups at this point. I took the first breakaway empire (the red empire between Green and I) as a vassal before freeing them about 10 years back.

The blue was territory that had been devoured by a crisis invasion. None of the northern empires could stop them, and I had to wait for them to nearly wipe out my western neighbor before I could step in. Prior to his downfall, my neighbor wasn't too keen on cooperation. He had a sizable fleet at one point though, which softened up the alien entities quite a bit. His fleet having been significantly diminished, I took the opportunity to vassalize and eventually absorb his empire. Then, during one of our wars with our northern neighbors, I took the alliance joint fleet to the west and used overwhelming force to clear out the entire area of the crisis invasion forces. The pale green and deep purple have since expanded back into the region, but I don't really care all that much at this point. They're allied together, but, even together, they're so weak that I could take them on a whim.
