Yeah, I've got a Rifleman set up and ready to go, spec'd out for night ops, with help from Skwi. Pretty sure the main is a HK417, suppressed, and with scope. Don't remember the scope on it though....
Handguns are generally not carried but I went ahead and tested them, results can be found here. STK@30m means "Shots to kill" at a range of 30 meters. Testing was done without suppressors, shooting CSAT riflemen in center mass. Each handgun was tested against 5 enemies for consistency. A note on the 1911ACP - the sight aiming is offset right, and even though it says it can take an optic it never loads onto the model. Very hard to use and not a good option compared to other sidearms. In general .45 is the only way to go, except for the aforementioned 1911. The .357 Rhino has a great 1-shot punch but is limited by the 6-shot setup and cannot take a suppressor.
There was a few times while clearing Syrta at the end of the night of left-over hostile forces about penetration. I Figured I'd look into it and found that someone had done Terminal Ballistics testing already for the default weapon calibers. It was interesting to see where the kinetic energy fell out and just how much penetration most rounds had. Check it out here
So I was reading this thread and noticed the bit on mortars... If Arma 3 goes on sale at some point and I get it, I'll be a packmule if you want. So long as I get to help with the mortar. I like mortars. Well, I like explosives really. But mortars are pretty high on my list of favourite explodey-causing things.
Don't get too excited there. To fire them, you use an artillery computer, so the only thing you actually see is a line moving across the screen on a map. Your squadmates are the ones who get to actaully see the boom.
I need to do some further testing on battle rifles but there are just SO MANY of them and I'm not a great shot at range. Maybe I'll limit my testing to 400m (seems to be most common engagement range) and leave anything past that for designated marksmen and snipers.
That video that Dslyecxi made is the reason why a good number of us always default to using a 7.62 weapon. Well also the range, still a holdover from when we would be one shotted with iron sites by the AI and needed the extra range.
Mk 48, 3 spare 150rd boxes, 4x scope, suppressor is what I normally run. Usually carry full med loadout as well with that but if you don't want to play doctor you could carry some grenades or something instead.
My current lmg build is very close to what Skwi just said, I use an acog holo for day, tws mg for night, 4 spare 150rd boxes, suppressor, laser sight, laser designator, 20 bandages, 10 morphine, 6 eppi, 7 blood bags, 8 medkits, repair kit, rpg-42 with a single heat shot in it. *numbers of medical supplies may vary with actual use.
I need to do some STK range testing on LMGs, I'm thinking about trying out a M249 Para since the ammo takes up less space. The firing rate is high enough that even if it takes 3-4 shots with 5.56 you can fire those in the same time it takes 2-3 with 7.62.
Early testing begun on marksmen and sniper rifles. Comparison guide can be found here. Have not tested accuracy, recoil or lethality on any yet. Fun fact about M107 and KSVK - a single demo round will completely destroy an ATV.
I forgot that, they don't show up on the VAS list but I guess you can just put them in inventory and load from there? EDIT: I tried and could not make the MXM load the 100rd 6.5 mag.
I wish somebody would make the Galil 7.62 series. I would switch out my Zastava for a Galil ARM in a heartbeat.
Good luck with your marksman/sniper testing. Either that scope you recommended is shit past 1km, or the wind is the biggest pain in the ass. Since there's no way to measure the wind aside from a little pop-up that says "light wind from NE" and even if you could measure it there's no way to adjust the scopes for wind, I'm gonna need a "spotter" who does nothing but carries ammo for me. It took 60+ rounds to pop four tires on a stationary Pandur at 1200m this morning. I'll do some more testing tonight with different scopes and rifles to make sure the problem isn't in my weapon, but if it's not this will seriously cut our engagement range down and make snipers useless.
I'm honestly not anywhere close to being a good enough marksman to try testing at those ranges. I think I'll just leave it as a stat chart.
It's the gun. The M107 Wood Scope SD is inaccurate as fuck. Not sure about the other colors/options of M107, but I'm not gonna try every single one. Switched to the KSVK. Half mags, but every shot is consistent. Still affected by the wind a bit, but 1-2 ticks on the crosshairs is a simple enough adjustment to make. Don said he had no trouble last night with the original Barrett M107, so there's always that if I want my 10rd mag back.
