A few thoughts on the M249para. 5.56 just doesn't have the energy to run a suppressor and put shots out beyond maybe 300 yards. Suppressors just eat up too much of the 5.56s energy. I was firing at guys 400m out with a scope zero'd to 400 and it was falling a good 150+m short. I managed one kill with the suppressor at about of 150 rounds fired. Lots of hits, just very little kinetic energy was actually doing damage. The Para being short barreled also makes it unwieldy to control for more than very short bursts even in prone. The interesting thing about the Para is that once you drop the suppressor and go loud, its accuracy skyrockets. It's still not great for more then short bursts, but it proved totally devastating when fired with a holo at around 150m w/o silencer. Area denial is a good role for this weapon.

I'd say it makes a solid weapon for a Parajumper who needs a low-weight LMG kit to fit more rockets or explosives, or for strait up city fighting, especially for suppressing fire, but just doesn't compare to the 7.62 MG's for longer distances. I'm curious to see the difference the normal m249's longer barrel would make, if any. Things to try out tomorrow I suppose.

I'll have to recheck my Sniper build then... I think I took the standard M107, and I've got 10 rd explosives...

Try using just the base M107 without the built-on attachments. You can then select and add the scope and suppressor after the fact like normal.

I can agree with this assessment from experience. Considering most of our engagements take place at 300-500m I just can't see using the intermediate calibers (5.56 or 5.45R) especially when suppressed.

Even on the assault rifles the 7.62 doesn't have that much more recoil and I don't think anybody uses full auto mode on anything but LMGs anyway. I'd rather have the extra range and stopping power and not have to worry about putting more rounds down field. The only big downside I see on 7.62 ARs is the smaller mag capacity except for the Russian guns, which use the 7.62x39 and don't have comparable accuracy at 500m+. I still have better results with my Zastava M70 than just about anything short of a DMR like the Mk14 EBR or the SVD Dragunov. The SCAR-H, HK417, FN FAL or HK G3 would serve just as well, even with the 20rd mags.

I'll try that tonight, although it's not gonna replace the KVSK for me. The five round mag isn't as convenient as the ten round for large groups, but not having to worry about recoil is huge. The time it takes for the rifle to stabilize after a shot is just a bit quicker than the time it takes to chamber the next round, so there's no rushing shots in high intensity situations. Also, having a smaller mag and more time between shots has greatly improved my accuracy. Semi-auto is nice, but it makes me a little too aggressive with my fire rate. If we could set up a target under the awning at base just behind the fuel truck, I'll do some more 900m testing with the different sniper rifles.

Nothing wrong with that! The KSVK looks awesome too.

I should be around tonight so if you want I can get you a target stand somewhere.

The Virtual Arsenal is a WONDERFUL testing area. The VR targets that pop up when you try out your loadout are equipped with whatever you're equipped with so you can try out whatever you want to use against what you're using. This also provides a great opportunity to try out not just weapons but equipment and outfits as well.

First up when I get time - vests. I can already confirm that different vests have different levels of protection as well as carrying capacity. I'll do a full test-out sometime this week.

Combat helmets will deflect a 9mm round every once in a while but do nothing to protect from rifle calibers.

My favorite weapon is the one that comes with a targeting computer.
