The russian planes do benefit the most from arcade mode compared to everything else. so in anything mode other than arcade they are not OP.

honestly, even after watching that video, I don't really feel that the russian planes are that OP. while i agree that it shouldn't be able to clip stationary objects and keep flying, i think the message might be a bit misleading about armor being such an important factor. if i can get behind a russian plane, it dies like the rest assuming no one else interferes. also, lets be fair about this, russian fighter planes were generally speaking very well armored... but that armor comes at a cost...

there probably still needs to be some balancing, but the "Russian bias" is no where near at the level World of Tanks was.

Yeah it's a wonky setup with the way crews are used. Think of it as each available plane slot being it's own hanger/bunker for a particular crew to stay in. They remain only there and never move regardless of whether you choose to put a particular plane they've used before in another hanger slot. You have to put the plane they know to their hanger to use the skills they've previously attained.

After spending some exp points in useless areas I learned that a bit late. Oh well. Here's a wiki I found describing crew skills:
    http://warthunder.wikia.com/wiki/Crew_and_Skills

Before it got out of hand I just reorganized the crew bays to mimic the available tech tree left to right to make that easier to remember. Still swapping planes around quite a bit anyway, but that at least helps me remember where the strengths remain as far as focused fighter/bomber roles are concerned.

So far been having fun, but damn the low tier German/Italian planes suck bad compared to other nations. So tedious to do anything with 'em. Or I just suck... *sigh*

I can say that after reaching rank 3 in the German tier that things have evened out a bit. I'm having good and bad games respectively so nothing new or frustrating in that field. But boy do I hate those heavy bombers...they take forever to kill and you can't stay on their tail because their gunner will make Swiss cheese out of me.

EDIT: The thing I really hate is when I ram into enemy fighters. I lose my wings and die and they suffer non critical dmg...bullshit imo.

Aye, once I got past the first couple of tiers for the Germans I'm starting to enjoy myself much more again. Their first heavy fighter seems to fit me perfectly for some reason.

Im saddened at the fact when I learned that the B-25J's in the game were not the solid built nose kind with 8 (50 cal.) in the nose, 2 on each side of the fuselage, and 6 more (50 cal.) in the turrets.

Supposed to have 18 (50 Cal.) but we get the much crappier versions, what ever.

Been kind of learning as I go, as I haven't done many flight sims. Darn fun though, getting the hang of that 'air sense'. Even in skiing I stick to the ground, lol (more haha there for those that know). It's actually pretty educational getting air frame models down and reading their brief historical descriptions.

Couple things I picked up that maybe others already know, but certainly worth a share:

Anti-aircraft artillery guns fire upwards. If you make a pass through an area at about 30m in altitude you can take them out without being hit at all.

If you need to get out of trouble, momentarily dropping flaps before mashing the aileron-up and throttle keys into a hard pull creates the steepest banked turn possible for the chassis. Find myself toggling that on/off very often depending on circumstance.

Altitude on heavy bombers is key to safety, as fighters generally can't even reach the same. The 0 key on numberpad zooms in even further on the bomb sight view and the 5 key on numberpad resets default views.

One particular question I have to others who are more used to flight -- How the hell do you get away from someone who has better maneuverability, or even similar? I crank and turn while trying to keep speed and gain distance but damn. Landscape aside, surely there's a specific and better maneuver than what I've been typically pulling on simple hard cranks. If I know my motor is better, sometimes I try a high altitude climb but still remain a target in doing so. The 'apple-turnover' is one I've used from high altitude but I'm sure there's a good one out there from low altitudes I'm apparently missing. I currently just throttle up and crank it back on a curve, looking for cover and friendlies.

I was having a lot of fun till I got to level 4 (playing as Russian). Suddenly the mouse/keyboard control has become a huge disadvantage. If someone gets on my tail I can't make the radical maneuvers I need to shake them, so I die really fast. I may have to shelve this one until I can get a joystick setup with rudder control.

I'm with Hollister, had really been looking forward to the a26 to then find out that it was the c model with glass nose and not the nasty ground attack versions.

also finally gave up dealing with getting the siatek hotas to work and pulled out my old ch yoke, pedals, and throttle quadrant, while it may not be a stick it gets the job done.

Second note of sadness, it doesn't support multiple throttles, prop controls and mixtures, hoping this gets addressed latter on.

On a note, I didn't try the other nations leveling up at all other than US and never actually felt at any disadvantage in early tiers. Got plenty of kills and bombs dropped where they needed to be. Since I didn't compare I'll take the other experiences as knowledge.

I was dinged though finding that my old Logitech Wingman Force joystick doesn't work at all with any 64-bit system. Headed for the round file I guess unless anyone wants it.

Magnus, did you check the turning radius of the Japanese jet in comparison to the ones of other countries? ;) Only the Sabre can match it (a number of tiers higher as well).

I've been focusing on Japan and USA lately, closing in on level 4. Not the best selections of planes, and some of the lower tiers fly sorta funky, but after comparing the turning rates at higher levels, I couldn't resist.

I haven't flown it in combat yet, but the Japanese get a "Catalina-like" bomber at tier 3. It has 4 turret points, one facing every direction.

Dihm, just got done playing around with that jap bomber. She has about 12 bombs and 5 turrets. Once you unload your bombs she makes an excellent anti aircraft platform, I had about 3 poor chaps get killed in a row just by getting behind my bomber since at your high six the fire of 3 of the turrets overlap.

I found out the B25 at a certain angle the top turret and tail turret fire overlap so thats 4 .50 cal guns i think top can overlap with either side guns as well. I wonder if they might add a thing where you can lock that turret forward to add to the forward firepower.

Be glad they didn't put the B-25g/h in. The damn thing has a 75mm cannon on it.

The cannon was nose mounted and was normally replaced with a field kit that added two 50 Cal. in its place. Main problem was that it was a single shot cannon that had to be reloaded by a crew and could hardly get any shots off on targets. Germans and the brits both had similiar setups but I cant remember what planes they were using.

I'm enjoying Bf 110 quite much. It's great for making BnZ attacks on planes fighting slow turning fights at low altitude.
The trick is to get high (Don't even...) as soon as the combat starts and make attack runs at targets that are not aware of you or are not engaging you. Bombs can also deal some damage on land targets.

He 112 can BnZ a bit and is fun plane to use.

Just got M.C. 202 Folgore too. Should be fun. Stats look promising.
