Looks lame, but I'm still going to see it because Warcraft... So I guess Legendary Pictures - 1, Future of Cinematography - 0?
Here is some traditional WoW drinking music then... more of just alliance side brewfest BGM which is the in lore Oktoberfest equivalent
Why couldn't they just do full mocap and make it completely digital? No matter how good your CGI is, it's still not at a level where it can blend into live action.
That's what I was thinking too. They do kick ass cinematics. Make it Beowulf 2:The Warcraftening. Not this abomination
Normally movie issues boil down to two things, production costs or some producer or the director forcing there will on the movie. It's like dalaran in the movie trailer, in the trailer it is not where it is supposed to be in this time line. Dalaran didn't become a sky city until many years after the time this movie is supposed to take place. Ner'zhul is seen but he never crosses over into Azeroth he stays on draenor and dies in the soon destruction iirc which he apparently crosses the portal in this movie. They made garona a half human Orc, she was the daughter of a Draenei who was raped by a warrior from gul'dans clan so he could use the child. There are other issues such as the statues in the courtyard in front of stormwind. Thrall should not be green unless one of his parents are which is drakka and durotan which are still both brown from the looks. Orcs are originally brown then turned green with having drank mannoroths blood but only the ones that drank turned green. Continued drinking of the blood would turn them red. Each color change also comes with a huge increase in muscle mass and size. Originally Orcs were somewhat hippies until mannoroth got to them which leaves me to believe they are throwing a bit of the lore out of the window.
I would have been thrilled if they just did what SC did. I mean, you can tell Bishop is Gary Oldman. But instead of standing out in his green screened environment he actually looks like he's part of it since he's CGI as well. Avatar was good, but CGI is not at a level yet where they can make it seamlessly work together with live action. Just do the entire movie in CGI with full mocap and facial capture and it would be visually amazing instead of this disjointed cartoon thing. God damn "Who Framed Ragnar Rabbit" movie.
It's not Blizzard anymore, remember? It's Activision (blizzard). Also, you can notice how all of their games are more or less " ; ' D " these days. They're trying to lol each other so hard at the office that the games are all cartoony crap and hard to take seriously. I'm seriously excited about Legacy of the Void and whether it will be great or fall into their current "standards". As far as this movie goes, I can live with poor CGI and how it doesn't really work with live actors. Not everyone has the common sense of JJ Abrams. Look back at the history of entitled buffoons and things like ordering your riflemen to go prone to get hit less by enemy fire were revolutionary military technology breakthroughs that took hundreds of years to surface despite constant fighting and high stakes. And even when they started to go prone and take cover they were still fighting against the full benefit of such practice by wearing fricking neon colored uniforms. I expect that it is similarly unfathomable to movie directors and producers today that it really would be best to use as much live sets and actors as possible and not the other way round (using as few real things as possible and cut&pasting them in incompatible art style). But I truly enjoy Warcraft and I can see myself easily enjoying this if the story is good and if they don't overdo that flight thing like in Jupiter Ascending. Characters that fly are hard to get right, even if they're using giant birds to do so and it can quickly destroy immersion as seen in Jupiter Ascending where it took less than 0.2 seconds for flying character to annihilate the film and feeling.
All said, I went and looked it again because I didn't take it so negatively myself. And no, it didn't do the slightest to bother me. The opposite, I'm quite excited about it.
some spoilers, don't watch if you don't want the movie somewhat ruined.. though if you know anything of the lore it doesn't really matter anyway and full trailer break down
I'm not condemning it. Hell I'll probably watch it and enjoy it. I just don't like the style they chose to go with and feel they could have made it better visually.
Im pretty sure the story will be and probably the acting. But im with smokey on visuals. Do not like.
So the transformers movies can look like fake ass shit and none complains. Warcraft movie trailer comes out, looks much better then that pile of shit and gets stupid amounts of people bitching that it looks exactly like how it is supposed to from the games and books
