    Read through the FAQ on the nexus page. I get where they're coming from and I glad they believe in a challenge, but the wording on some of their answers is pretty condescending.

    Yeah, I can see that.

    That said, if you liked X:EU (especially with the Enemy Within expansion) and are looking for something to give it a fresh feel with more to do, you would be remissed to skip out on Long War. It really is one of the best mods I've seen.

    Edit: the expansion of different classes alone makes it well worth it (although lots of other things have been expanded upon as well). Keep in mind the list below lists ALL classes; left half is normal soldiers and right half is Mechtroopers. Bottom row is abilities for officers, genemods, or psychics.

    Clear a UFO crash site with one soldier on Classic or Impossible difficulty.

    that has to be an insane achievement to get. I'm reading that as you only take one soldier at the start.

    It is far easier to do near the beginning of a new campaign when enemies are far weaker and fewer in number. If you wait too long, it really does become impossible.

    I didn't like the idea of this game to begin with, I thought it was a bastardization of the 'good old' game.
    Then I tried it and found out that it wasn't as bad as I had thought. Played it a while.

    Then I realized that it is just that, a bastardization and don't want to play it or it's sequels or addons. I want the real deal.

    Was it really that difficult to make persistent aliens on a map that use an actual AI? No, let's just spawn people right in front of you because from design point of view it's an easy shortcut, never mind how little it actually makes sense in any tactical or plain common sense way.

    7/10, graphics, gameplay etc. are all good but there are severe issues with design choices that make this largely unenjoyable for most tactical battle enthusiasts. This is about as wrong as a bad Hollywood movie gets the idea of urban warfare.

    Ouch... I think you just made some of the devs cry. ;) Well all game development issues aside, i think the Long War mod made the game much more interesting to play. By comparison, I do agree the vanilla experience does feel very bland.

    I want to try out the Long War when I have time because this game has so much potential, it's just that the took a wrong turn on the last stretch of a marathon.

    Bla bla, difficult to make games etc. and investors and idiot producers bla bla, grandma died and dog ate my source code. At the end of day the game was not a whole lot of fun but I can totally see how a good mod would save it.

    I saw there was another mod that makes the aliens far more aggressive and actually hunt you. So you dont have to go looking for them
