Don't lynch me, but I tend to find anime storylines utterly impenetrable and incomprehensible, and thus stop watching after like 20-30 minutes.
Depends. Lots of anime's have gone away from that. A good few keep in mind that money is an issue, and while parents are often not the main concern, they do mention them and acknowledge their importance in the characters life. ...and for every one anime that's like that there's 2 or 3 that are as you described, so it goes either way. But really, why should high schoolers have major monetary concerns? That's not what I would call "normal" anyways. As for not understanding the world...yes, several are impossible to understand (came across one recently; had to stop trying) but the simpler ones are brilliant. My favorite, a Certain Scientific Railgun, is one of those. But once you understand the basics, the rest isn't to difficult. Beyond that is pure awesomeness.
They lose me when the flying demon dragons explode out of hobos to fight the middle schoolers who can transform their limbs into spirit guns and are secretly in training at their school to become the saviors of the universe, only not our universe, a different one that they only encounter in their dreams.
it depends on what you watch i have myself seen several times that its not true but i wasnt the one who wrote it in the first place as that was someone else yes parents are mentioned but is never there in some animes
Or as was in Redlines case, space race, you hero, go win and get a woman while doing that, and it was pretty much it story wise.
