I was joking about the gundam seed as I find it to be crap. Gundam Origin OVA's follows the story of how the zabi family came to power and how Casval turns into Char. This takes place before original gundam. Gundam Unicorn follows a young newtype and Minerva Zabi, with them teaming up to bring peace to the earth sphere. They do this by trying to find laplaces box which contains details on the Earth Federation that quite literally changes everything. Edit.. there is also gundam Thunderbolt which is a 4 episode OVA that is very good. Very dark and gritty and people are going to die. Well people die in all of the three here.
I just realized how insanely fast the mobile suit technology advances. Because unicorn is only 16 years after the original. And that thing is light years beyond the original (not the animation the unicorn vs rx 79). To be fair they seem to be fighting every 2-5 years.
Ironblooded Orphans is a good series, but it really does just do what all the other gundam series have done. Take one out of the norm individual, give him giant robot of awesome, add girl way to important to the world(or star system depending) insert masked figure and explosions. It really doesn't do anything extraordinarily different. Sure the main cast are the ultimate underdogs, and this adds the enjoyable, we poor so don't shoot too much or we starve aspect, but the outsmarting everyone thing gets old. I see it as a bastard offspring of Wing and 08th MS team. The heroes are not invincible newtypes or anything like that. They are better than most soldiers, with rare tech that gives them a leg up, but by no means makes them unstoppable. It is good, I'll give it that, but it really is just another check these boxes anime. I'll still watch the shit out of it because giant robots fighting.
To be fair, I don't think I watched every episode so I probably missed some things (haven't had time to watch all of it). It still has some issues that annoy me enough to not want to watch it with company over, but I like the show on its merits of putting some semblance of thought into tactical combat and having grunts with no super powers that are still badass on their own. I watched half of Thunderbolt today, btw. Holy shit! Awesome recommendation, Hollister! I actually enjoyed that one. My only (minor) complaint is certain parts made me feel like I was watching a lost episode of Cowboy Bebop... but for Gundam, it was still way fucking better than most of the shit in the franchise.
I agree, having more less than special cast is a huge helping hand in making Ironblooded better than most gundam titles.
Has anyone been able to track down a good version of the Armored Trooper Votoms series? Which one would you recommend the most? My biggest complaint is that all the mechs seem to suffer from explode-when-dead syndrome, but hey... you can't have everything. I've seen bits and pieces on Youtube to know the original looks pretty badass, but I can't find any reliable sources for it.
Votoms. Might have to hunt down the DVDs for that. As most of my old torrent sites I knew that had the older stuff are long gone now.
aside from the fact that it is only the 2nd gundam series (I don't count G gundam) as far as I know where the MCs gundam is almost completely melee. The other being 00. Otherwise yeah it's not really anything new. except that mobile suits in general are kinda uncommon seems most militaries are still something other than mobile suits. It sounds like Gjallarhorn is the only group with a ton of mobile suits while everyone else it's mostly the mobile workers.
Okay. Two things. Golden Frieza is the most boring thing I've ever seen in my entire life. Yeah I know it's for kids but kids deserve way better villains than this. I mean his backstory is just "I went to hell and then did some sit-ups." And his arc is literally resolved by god fixing everything. (And this is the important one) Why do Frieza's feet make that noise?
In that case he should make the AT-AT noise. How am I supposed to take a battlemech seriously if he sounds like he has rubber duckies taped to his feet?
I want freiza to join the gang in the next survival arc because i think it would be hilarious to see him be forced to do it or be well.. utterly destroyed by beerus. even Cell would be funny as hell..
Cell would probably be on board with it seeing as proving he's best is kind of his whole thing. Frieza should be the guy who brings them towels. Unrelated: somebody really needs to remind Piccoyo he can have kids whenever he wants before he steals a baby. I mean another baby.
can't piccolo basically clone himself?well i guess it would be splitting. also a survival arc would be awesome with cell. Also I want something with a dream where goku meets his dad. actually I just remembered. I don't know if it is canon but there is something a tv special/movie where bardock somehow survives the destruction of planet vegeta and ends fighting and defeating Chilled (who is related to frieza) by becoming a super saiyen. If it is canon I kinda want him to show up. And vegeta will be all "oh great now there are two of them" and bardock to go "shit my son is an idiot... also I'm a grandfather?"
I'm just happy Androids 17 and 18 are on the team. It's been WAY too long since we got anything out of them, aside from what amounts to light sparring with 18.
I still think it is funny everyone still calls her 18. you'd think they'd have given her a name by now or she would use her pre-android name (if she remembers it).
Spoiler: Future Trunks Aw come on, Bulma learns to build her time machine from notes she sent herself from the future? I thought I was watchin' Dragon Ball not friggin' Primer. Edit: also god damn it Trunks quit screwing up the future.
She now prefers 18, as she no longer considers herself to be the person she once was before she was turned into android 18.
