This is why I love American made cars. If I had the problems I have with the Camaro in a Euro car, I would have just sold it.

Magazines, you say? I may regret this, but what kinds of cars?

Ok, cars are my life. I sacrificed a lot of normal human daily living conveniences to be able to afford or mod them, and have worked insane hours to come up with a few extra parts a paint job, etc.

I worked at a custom auto-body/high performance shop for years doing everything from building engines, to race prep, to custom fiberglass work, to spraying a bit of paint. Some of the cars we did have made the covers and had full feature articles in mags like Eurotuner. A lot of what we did were VWs or other Euro cars. Not that much American or classics, except for the odd job every so often. This gave me a huge HUGE advantage in messing with m own vehicles. It also got me a lot of contacts to get cheap parts and services.

List of "cool" cars I have had

-1990 Mustang GT (lots of custom work, but early in my hobby and wasnt much more than a full suspension and headers/exhaust)

-1999 Mercury Cougar (stripped to the bare chassis. Every single fastener and wire removed in build process. Fully welded and caged for wheel to wheel racing. Engine swap from a 3.0L DOHC 3.0L Ford Escape, lots of suspension work. Sold, and currently is successful in SCCA SM class. Most of my pictures of the finished car were corrupted when a hard drive failed so this is after I sold it. Hood is slightly different, and different wheels and a few class graphics)

-2005 Dodge SRT-4 ACR (bought specifically for D-Stock SCCA Auto-X. Sold off 6 months later as this thing BLEW at short and med. course Auto-X. Pushed like CRAZY :unamused: )

-2006 Subaru STi (Complete suspension, mounts etc. Full Turbo-back exhaust, equal length headers, Custom WRC/clone bodywork imported from Japan. Only 1 in America w all the parts as far as I knew. I did a LOT of stuff to this car. Underneith the roof scoop is the functional factory Group-N rally roof vent (think a mini-metal sunroof that opens backward to let in fresh air so the cabin doesnt fill w dust. Finally sold off 2 years ago so I could buy my current car)

-1986 Volkswagen Jetta GLi (tons of suspension work, switch to manual steering rack, and a 1.8l 16v swap with a close ratio 5 speed out of an early GTI. Handled and weighed about as much as a go-cart. Wife hated it so was sold off)

-1999 Porche Carrera C2 (Current car. Have not done a huge amount yet. Lightweight flywheel, Spec stage 2 clutch, GT3 center console, wheels, oh, and a new fucking engine since I blew the original one into a twisted hunk of metal a little over a year ago. Car has been in the shop for about as long now and a new motor is in place ready to go for spring. going to need a new suspension though as the struts are about gone (and probably lower the car about an inch or 2 to get rid of the factory USA 4x4 look. I have the bumpers for the factory Aero-Kit laying around but I am still hunting for the side skirts, and have not decided on a wing yet)

Nope, no regrets. Though as I was reading I saw the STi and drooled a little. Then I got mad when you said you sold it, until I saw your current car. Very nice.

The STi was a hell of a lot of fun. Also the best car I have ever had in the snow w snow tires on. Nothing would stop me, and when everyone else hid in their homes I was driving around like a maniac going through turns sideways at full throttle pretending to be Colin McRae.

I used to work at an Infiniti dealership and the owner had a Porsche/Audi/Jaguar dealer next door. I've driven one of the Carrera 4S and it was a good time.

I used to like doing that with my Camaro, though I never went full throttle. And it was usually just a few inches of snow or random ice patches. Dammit I miss my Camaro! Okay, new battery, new distributor, a few busted knuckles, and a lot of cursing. My next project after I blow up my computer.

One of the driving factors that got me to sell my 323i was getting sideways on the highway in a blizzard and having a semi coming straight at my driver's side door. To this day I still don't know how I got that thing straightened out going the right way. Half a mile further on at my off-ramp to the other highway there was like a dozen car pile up. Not a pleasant drive.

Yeah, the in-laws-to-be had liquor ready and waiting for me, I tied one on that night.

What did you tie it on? Your leg, finger? Christmas tree? Also what is the subject? All we know is that it is an '"it" and nothing more. Did you tie a snake to a tree? A moose to a fish? I have no idea. :unamused:

That is a badass car. As funny as it might sound, I really want Biff's car. Without the shit.

Not much into classic cars and the like (though I definitely appreciate those who preserve such awesomeness).

Currently have a 2010 Subaru Forester. It's a basic, but I like it. Drives nice, handles well, and tells me when my tire is going flat. 'Bout all this guy needs.

Personally I'm more into vintage motorcycles than vintage cars, but that's another thread.

Whee, ordered a new distributor and battery for the Camaro. Now I have to remember to bring some tools home from work and pray that old gas fires up.

Yeah, I really don't want to have to drop the tank. I've had to do it once and hated myself and my car at the end of the day.
