I would mess myself if I were going 160+mph and felt over 1G of pull to the left or right as I skid across the road. Jesus.

I would not have clean pantaloons. Was fun to watch though! The spectators are crazy standing so close

That looked like a ton of fun. I definitely don't have fast enough reflexes and enough driving skill to do that with 50% of the speed.
Shit - he hardly ever went below 140km/h...

If I tried that, I'd die gloriously.

Yeah, that was awesome, but something I don't have nearly enough skill to do. I wonder if there's any way to ride shotgun on one of those runs.

Perhaps? But I have a feeling that you'd throw off the car's weight, so much so that the driver might not be used to it, at least not without a few practice runs...

We have a big car racing festival sorta thingy in my town in ~3 weeks. Last year there were 56k visitors total.

    "
    * PORCHE GT3 CUP TROPHY * LEGENDS TROPHY * TOURING CARS * GT CARS OPEN * V 1600 CUP * V8 THUNDER CARS * XTREME RACE CUP * TOURING CARS OPEN * DRIFTING NÄYTÖSAJO * TUNING CAR SHOW * YM.

Also, demonstration drives of NASCAR and Formula 1 are in schedule this year.
    "

I've previously heard some of these events are exactly the place to go if you're looking for some special chance to ride shotgun. Places to do that are quite rare and I'm not sure if there's that chance this year at this event, but I've heard of those events previously and there's also an amateur race driver in the family on her side. I've always been more on the lookout for a ride with a fighter or helo and my bro managed to get me to fly on a military jet simulator (simulator for trainer craft and only take-off, nav flight & fool around and finally landing). He also managed to get me on a Super Puma flight across the town, that was a blast and it was the gentlest helo ride I've ever had - it was one of their best pilots and he put special effort to making it a smooth one. Kinda makes me sad, that same pilot died a little later when he was saving mountaineers during a storm.

But yea, I'm actually going to check if 'Vauhtiajot' event has any chance for riding shotgun - I doubt it but it would be worth it. Speed feels different on the ground, obviously.

I remember when my brother told me about this weather guy they had to take on a flight on a two seat fighter. The guy told the pilot "no tricks or any funny stuff" and the pilot said -"sure, I'll do my best to keep it steady". As soon as the plane was in the air and the pilot rolled the plane ~10 degrees in preparation for a slow turn, the guy started screaming "ok, ok, that's it, no more!"...

I would think any race driver willing to take someone in would have the sense to grab a few plastic bags along the ride. Like I said above, these things feel so much different on the ground.

Which reminds me of an old pilot tale (d'oh! this supposed to be about cars + motorbikes!), this pilot wanted to have a bit of fun at the expense of his 'passenger'. So he started to pull some really tight rolls and loops. The passenger sit silent, no reaction. "Tough guy!", he started pulling so hard on the stick that he himself blacked out a bit. Still no reaction, just a stoic expression on the passenger. "Bastard!", the pilot started to pull negative g's... But nothing.

So he took the plane down and went to the passenger and asked him:
    "how was it?"
-"well, what I made in my pants, I now have on my neck."

What are you trying to say? :unamused:

Nah, I understand what you mean. I've felt the difference doing 60 or so with a passenger, so I can't imagine how big of a difference it would make at more than double that speed. I wouldn't be opposed to a few extra practice laps though.

Huh, they have a few 2014s on the lot still, I wonder what kind of deal they would give...

Got 6500 rebate on my Abarth but it was a 2013. but that really means nothing after all the BS.

    26800 - 6500 rebate = 20400
20400 + dealer fees, taxes, title, tag, ect. = 24482
    24482 -4000 down payment = 20482
    20482 + finance rate = 22736

    Total actual cost 26736.

Ugh, but the new chassis, and I don't really want leather and a stupid sunroof and backup camera and all this other shit that will be expensive to fix...

2015 4-door GTI S + performance package would be my ideal I think, but I'll drive both years when I go in and see if they can convince me

Dang, that's a lot more torque

One of the shops at the Hollister rally was having a Dyno contest for bikes this weekend. All the big, loud choppers were doing runs and getting 85-100 horsepower. They were all talking shit about 160 hp, "the dyno must be broken" etc etc. I put the V-rod on and threw down 132 and took the top prize. It's always nice when the $8k bike shames the $50k bike. My 69 c.i.d. trounced several 124-130 c.i.d. barhoppers. My club was taking bets. We had plenty of beer money.

    And then we started drinking...

I have yet to find anything a chopper is good for.
