It’s because they act like it’s historically accurate while adding in things that obviously never happened or existed. They do this by telling stories of historical battles while adding in people that were never their to have diversity check marks while shitting on the actual contributions on the people they had tried to represent. Here is a good video on women’s contributions in naval warfare.
I have Origin Access for the month (or two since I just realized Tyranny is on there), and I've been playing Battlefield V. Multiplayer only to be fair, I find single player in a game designed to be multiplayer is usually horrible so I can't comment on any of the 'stories' they've put in. For the game, its actually pretty good. I think they marketed it horribly. There's customization, picking your person (men, women) and then clothing options, but after I did it once I haven't touched it since and I honestly don't notice it at ALL during combat aside from sometimes at point blank range being confused what side anyone is on. Sometimes you'll hear a weird woman scream, but hasn't bothered me. I literally have no clue if the soldiers I'm shooting at are women or men. For gameplay, the guns are pretty good, time to kill is pretty low, but different guns definitely have their strengths and weaknesses. I thought I'd hate the lack of general spotting, but it actually works well, and when you really need it you can spec into recon and use the binoculars to spot for your team (it racks up points pretty well and can be very effective when used at the right time). My biggest gripe is the heavier focus on infantry, vehicles are fairly rare still on the battlefield and easily destroyed even though I read the patch today made vehicles a bit better. I think EAs marketing very heavily focused on the women part, which while exists in the game, isn't very noticeable overall in the game play. Its a standard battlefield game, their marketing sucked.
Yeah I didn't see what the big deal was when it was just prosthetic arm lady that I knew about, or adding women as options to multiplayer or whatever
Which by itself is not a big deal. If they had done a wacky take on WW2 with silly skins that let you dress in full samurai garb I don't think as many people would have been upset. But DICE and EA have clearly taken a much more insidious route by presenting fiction as fact and using "inclusiveness" as a shield to mask their agenda they are trying to force down people's throats... As we've stated, it's the context of their actions that makes the difference. The part that really got me was the lame "I couldn't explain to my daughter why people were upset over an absolutely ridiculous depiction of a woman in WW2" dialog. How utterly disingenuous and manipulative! Especially when there were real-life badass women of WW2 who deserve to have their story told. And I'm sure the French don't appreciate being marked as racist assholes to support DICE's distorted message, either. All that being said, there's still plenty of toxic bigotry being slung at EA and DICE that is completely inexcusable, but that shouldn't make EA or DICE's transgressions in this any more acceptable.
This is a video where the guy breaks down all of the places where DICE and EA replace real men and women with false narratives and revisionist history:
I mean the French are racist assholes. But that's not a reason for EA to take advantage of that fact. Though according to my brother it's actually just the Parisians (people who live in Paris) that are the racist assholes. French people who don't live in Paris are nice normal people.
It's less of a French thing and more a big city thing. Parisians get annoyed by non-Parisians. New Yorkers do the same thing. Something about people living in too close of proximity. The video Trev linked (American Krogan) made a good point that the French during WW2 were actually way more welcoming to the African troops than the Americans were to their own "minority" soldiers. Culture politics are way too complicated to make definitive generalizations, though.
Having lived in Orlando for most of my life I can attest to this as everyone seems to be a complete asshole to each other. While on the other hand when I go hunting up in Georgia and I'm in town which may have 3k people living in it, everyone is freaking cool with each other and super nice. Was the same in North Carolina where I was stationed in the Marines. I would not mind living there if it was not for the fact that dollar general is basically the walmart or had to drive 30 to 50 minutes to get anywhere big. I think this has to do with the fact when there are so many people you can just disappear into them. Reminds me of internet anonymity in a way, so everyone seems to be a jerk to each other more often.
Dihm, he triggered Spoiler: Mature content ahead American Krogan put out a good video with good info. What pissed me off was derogatory use of terms like 'Leftist' and 'Social Justice'. What the fuck is wrong with a little fucking social justice and equality? What is wrong with putting a check on the worst impulses of humanity? What is wrong with some damn decency in this shitball of a world? Let's say no to corporate greed and killing our children to make a buck. I don't want my daughter poisoned by her food because REGULATION BAAAAD!!!! RAWR!!! Must make PROFIT! The muthafuckin problem is EXTREMISM! THAT'S what needs to get called out. THAT'S what happened here that lead to revisionism. And that cocksucker swings both directions on the spectrum. When we put up a dividing line in the sand and say that everyone on the other side is the worst aspects of the extreme across the border we get NOWHERE. Everyone on the 'Right' are not neo-nazi fascists who want to make 15 year olds have rape babies and then stop supporting the mother as soon as the child is born. Everyone on the 'Left' isn't pinko-commie antifa terrorists who want to force you to have gender reasignment and make you call yourself 'they'. We need to realize that what we are fighting is a shared battle against the extremes and we need to find common ground in the fucking MIDDLE. Dihm fucking out. PS Rage: Shoot your fucking cell phone videos in landscape, noobs
Just to be clear guys... we don't need to make this a discussion about left vs. right ideals. That's more a separate (and extremely controversial) topic. I don't necessarily agree with all of American Krogan's viewpoints, but rather I was more focused on his main point that EA & DICE purposefully misrepresented real people that fought and died in WW2 (which is objectively true). Just remember that the purpose of this thread is to archive EA doing stupid shit.
That's why I said triggered and ended up putting it in a spoiler I'm in agreement with ya ma dude. As I think about it I can KIND of see a counter argument for the Heavy Water mission of 'well that's not interesting gameplay to blow it up without firing a single shot!' so that they then had to make changes anyway, so they wanted to make a 'compelling story'. It just exposes the idiocy of gamification. Just make it a fictional account, done and done. Don't make it a revisionist history.
My grandmother was a little girl in northern Italy during WW2 and she told me some shit the nazis had done. Such things as the enlisted coming into town and pointing at woman and then forcibly making sexual advances while urging them into a house. The few that fought off such things the first time this happened got dragged inside, beaten, raped, dragged outside naked and shot in the head. She told me she can still hear all the old woman and children scream when they shot the girls. This is all I can think about when watching this 120lb wet 16 year old girl man handle a trained nazi soldier.
Yeah that's fucked up. My grandfather was in the Pacific. Got blown out of a palm tree by artillery fire while stringing communication lines and only a few of his unit lived. Was a .50 cal underdeck gunner on a carrier too and got to deal with kamikazes. Pacific Theater stuff kinda wigs me out sometimes if I put much thought into it. Hell, any of the historical stuff
Spoke to an ex-soviet East German pilot while I was in Berlin, he told me about what happened after the surrender occurred. He had 3 sisters and 4 aunts before the Soviets came, within a month only his youngest sister who was 5 at the time was left alive. He only joined them because it was the only way to feed his sister without standing in bread lines for most of a day. His stories about what people would do for bread were pretty fucked up as well.
My wife's Grandparents ran out of Ukraine, one set literally out the back window as the door was being pounded on, rather than getting conscripted by the Russians. Refugees on the road, tales of people eating grass and stuff. War bad. Never heard anything about the Germans coming through from her parents (they weren't born yet, born on the way), just that there was bad blood with the Russians
Havelock and JVille have Walmarts now, bro. Was like the biggest things to happen to either town in 40 years. ENC is slowly dragging itself into the 21st century.
