the way the talk about the gear and enemies they make it sound less like a tactical quick TTK shooter and more of a gear-based borderlands type system or something... still pretty interested in the title but a little confused as to it's direction at this point
The E3 presentation made me excited one moment, then immediately made sure I would not play the game. Hell in the presentation they showed griefing. No thank you.
I actually think the way pvp works sounds neat, that you can choose which side to come in on in a fight and stuff. But I can see how it would rub people to wrong way.
i agreed that them actually promoting griefing in the demo was a good way to give a lot of people who've played these post-apoc open world games a really bad impression. the simple fact that they were on edge about the other group was enough to show that you can have encounters with other players and decide how to handle them
But in the end it was the griefers who got... Well can't say griefers because they didnt actually grief anyone. They just player killed, which in the end there friend back stabbed his two partners, of which I would too if my asshole of a group decided to do the same thing as them. Player killing someone once =|= griefing, doing it over and over in a way that won't allow them to play the game is griefing.
My point is they are basically promoting that type of behavior and catering to that type of player. It would be infuriating to me, and you basically could never play solo in those kind of places.
Just need to be more like batman..., They need to make so that if you player kill a lot you loose the option to look like a normal person, and it opens up options to other "asshole" gear. Basically gear that only opens up while others become closed depending on your style of play. This would only be like clothes and what not.
valid point, and if that's what they were going for then I think the guy who was last standing should've said something badass about the other guys being dicks before opening up instead of just looking like an opportunistic ass I was actually thinking about the game though and the whole "cleaners" and operatives didn't make any sense to me. the cleaner guys clearly weren't bandits or mutants or normal post-apoc badguys and the operatives clearly have serious assets at their disposal. what does the post-apoc setting have to do with any of it? the whole thing seemed more sci-fi theme the more I think about it. Hopefully they'll put some more out soon about wtf is actually going on from a story standpoint...
well, they've said that PKing tags you in the Division's in-world system as a rogue operator, so that could mean there's a reputation system in place that keeps an eye on that kind of thing.
that's great, hopefully there are benefits and drawbacks to that style of play. The looming tension of other players hopefully being the primary threat is what makes these games so memorable. There just has to actually be drawbacks for the system to balance out edit: also, direct vocal chat is essential for these games to work. the demo seemed to be just the team having comms since they didn't talk to that other group at all
I must admit that I'm not particularly thrilled about the douchery that is bound to happen in this game from what the video portrayed.
sadly I have to agree, I was really looking forward to this game. But having to deal with everyone else, that are going to most likely just try and kill you would just ruin the game for me. You cant even compare this to even coming close to being real life if in the same situation and I was hoping it would mimic real life. But this is what you get for the anonymity of the internet and most online gamers.
So.. don't group with people you expect to betray you (Gabvid ಠ_ಠ) and don't expect anything but "mefirst" behavior from the population at large? Sounds like everything else we play that has even a modicum of open multiplayer.
Edit: man I'm being passive aggressive lately. I tend to agree with you, Varg. I also think its worth noting that the PVP area is a specific zone in the game, and PVP doesn't seem to be possible in the majority of the game world, from what I've read.
yeah. I'm very interested in reading more. My only real concern at this point is that top-tier gear might be limited to PVP zones, but that seems unlikely.
It's an ambitious and interesting new take on an MMOFPS. Not holding my breath for Ubisoft, but still hope it ends up as something decent. If they do it right, it could be a great game to hop in with a group of friends and wreak havoc.
