Getting yourself killed trying to compete with a real bike because of drastically inferior design?

...speaking of which.. It would be nice to one day afford a real bike. Doesn't need to be expensive, just fast and reliable (which add up the price?). That would be sweet. I just love high speed. I'd like to pay to race on some of the nearly unused local tracks, not to compete but to go fast. By the time I could afford a bike, getting caught ~200kph would cost shitloads of cash if a copp caught me. Not to mention the random events you can encounter on public roads. I wasn't even speeding but once during winter the road was like skating ring and behind a long corner I saw a fricking truck and trailer sideways occupying the whole road. The distance was short and breaks locked several times, almost lost control a couple of times and what was really just 4-6 seconds felt like several minutes. Didn't hit it though.

But I'd never race on public road, unless I saw it was really long straight line and I knew there weren't outsiders of police there. On your own, relying on luck on curvy road - Lawrence of Arabia'd eventually. You're just going to simply run out of luck.

There's an old hot-rodders saying: "Fast, reliable, and cheap. You can only have two"

Meh, 5 year old 600cc sportbikes are a dime a dozen. They're fast and reliable and great for thrashing at a track. Tires are the part that get expensive on track days.

So a few years old middle weight bikes are pretty much at sweet spot?

I know another sweet spot on cars - a few years old cars that have been taken out of use after a crash. Previous two cars were these, just pick ones that have been hit to their tail or tail corner. Last two had been hit to left tail corner, basically switch new bumper and new lights and you're good to go, incredibly low price and it's not being sold because the previous owner got tired of all the mechanical problems, like so many other cars.

Been extremely reliable and for the fraction of cost of normal cars. It just takes a bit of waiting and more so if you're looking for a specific year/model combo, but all kinds of cars get trashed so it eventually happens for most normal cars. After certain price range of course the people who own them will be able to afford to fix them until they need to be scrapped entirely, not that I could afford to fix up such a car.

But, for instance, 1000€ for a few years old Opel Astra which feels brand new from the inside and there have been no signs of mechanical wear even after 3 years. It feels like a car I could've paid 15k € for. Just a few years back a friend bought a used car for 20k € and within a year it had two different parts wear out and need replacement, often leaving him on the side of road and so forth.

I got a chopper.. a short chop hard-tail.. old... Frankenstein bike. I didn't pay an arm and a leg for it but can't ride it for more than 100 miles. You're basically right... it's not for riding. Looks damn sexy, though. Sounds evil, too. Blast to ride for about an hour or so. My pasty flapjacks need a comfy chair.

    Yeah.

Will be checking financials and then ordering a 2015 GTI S w/ DSG, performance package, lighting package. Just deciding between silver and red

Personally? I'd go for Silver. Red is nice and all, but in my mind, nothing beats a silver blur traveling down the highway like a bullet.

silver = less likely to stand out and get a ticket

also I like silver cars so take that with a grain of salt

Another benefit to Silver is less heat while sitting in the sun. Dirt shows up less too.

I am pretty sure I want Silver. Adriana liked red, so I am considering it
    :p

They have a vinyl and tinting guy, I may have them put on a stripe or two, looked pretty spiff with two offset red stripes on a white autobahn

I can't do an SE or Autobahn. Sunroof is too low. Oh darn

As in the Sunroof is too low for head clearance? Yeah, I know that feel. The '01's are good for head clearance, at least for me, but that is a 14 year difference in design.

As for the stripes.... maybe Black on Silver?

Yep, top of my head was touching the roof. I didn't even try starting it before we moved over to the S. I am 6'3" with only a 30" inseam. Lots of torso.

I would go with black and old gold stripes.

Yeah, I'm 6'4" with a 34 inseam, so I know your pain. My main issue is finding cars with enough leg room.

That would look very sexy. But also very hot when sitting in a parking lot.
