Ah, I see it's that mod. Yea, I don't suppose they can fix hardcoded idiocies from the base game but they've got the right idea about what they're doing.

Should try it out some time though I don't think I'll be revisiting them even with mods. I hate badly scripted combat.

This is a bad opinion, and you should feel bad.

Even without Long War, the game was amazing.

Any dissenting opinions are clearly part of a greater Illuminati plot.

Xcom is a great game, The Long War Mod makes it even better! pretty excited about Xcom 2

If you not tried it yet pick up Xenonaughts on steam. plays like the original Xcom, Made by a small indie dev. Very solid game!

so you're saying you don't think the enemy would be able to airdrop some allies on the field? I mean, -you- did, why can't they? Honestly I hope that one of the new mission types includes a small squad with reinforcements arriving periodically throughout the fight, you may only have the one dropship, but that hardly means that's the only way to deliver troops to the field. (though really, why exactly would you -only- have one dropship? I personally imagine several ships going on missions simultaneously.)

yeah I think xcom actually has at least 10 dropships and has multiple missions going at a time. I think it was originally intended that you could build dropships in the base screen as well (maybe repair and replace them as well) but they scrapped that for some reason. it would make sense to be able to call in limited reinforcements with a mobile base to. something like the helicarrier is the base.

Because they wanted to dumb the hell out of their great design that was more closer to original XCOM and came up with this max 6 guy ever game where enemies spawn all over the place and don't exist in the map.

You don't understand my point. It would be actually harder if it was like the originals where the enemy could have 40+ guys at once in the battlefield as opposed to 3-4 guys spawning every 3 turns from certain spawn points. Now it even allows you to play the system by triggering a spawn point and pulling back and eliminating the 3 guys before triggering the next.

In the old ones you'd get spotted by one enemy and soon their whole force would descend on you and often from multiple routes so even though you might have 12 agents in you could still find yourself overwhelmed by an enemy flight squad with cloaking devices and missile launchers ripping through your center.

Oh yea and talking about Apocalypse the aliens could actually shoot down your transports and bomb the hell out of your base. If you couldn't defend/evacuate your base, they'd destroy it altogether with every facility and agent left inside. Otoh scrambling your craft would also mean heavy losses and high expenditure and still a stray shot in the wrong place could knock the whole base out.

I'm not saying the new XCOMs are unfair. I'm saying they've made a couple of wrong calls and unnecessary changes that don't make the games harder or better.

It might be that since I'm a dev I hate seeing people spawn in my view. It feels like deus ex machina/cheating and just damn lazy.

so, long war then. I've done at least three missions in quick succession with 42 bad guys in them :p Not spawning in, just, there. Patrolling their big ass ship. I do agree in some aspects, but in other aspects it can get far more frustrating having limited control over the battlefield and no reinforcements, the triggers are fine, far as I'm concerned, generally they only occur in limited time missions and while you can use the triggers to your tactical advantage I can see how it could be worked in to the scenario, like the one mission, you're on a dam, you're releasing pressure with valves in order to make it to the objective before the dam collapses, the aliens want whatever you're after too, or they just want to destroy it, not really sure, however, they supposedly have air support, they see a release valve open up, realize what that means and drop more troops to provide intereference but they can't see precisely where -you- are, so they drop them in the general vicinity. A savvy tactician would realize that the aliens would be able to see and infer what the release valves would mean and would plan accordingly to handle any reinforcements.
The only thing I really think they could improve upon is enemy communication, they often animate as if they're communicating, but you never see friends coming to assist, or other aliens falling back to better ground (until you are visible to that particular group of course) each 'squad' acts independent of the whole, which is fine for individual species, I get that they're not -completely- unified, but it's a stretch in the grand scheme of things. However, if they toned up the AI to that point I can imagine it would quickly become Xcom Out the Windows, frustrating XD

40 seems the average for the big alien ships. I know one or 2 missions I did there were 60+ aliens on the map at once. I think there was a group of 10ish muton elites I was fighting. actually I think at one point I was fighting 20 aliens most of them being sectoids and muton elites with 20+ health. hell it'd take like 3-4 shots from MEC troopers with their best weapon to kill those fuckers. and I think there were a few sectoids that never attacked all they did was put the shield on the mechtoids.

I have shot 20 of those troop transports down in a row and each one had 40 survivors. of course late game it's almost all high health aliens and is insanely annoying. good thing I have 8 MEC troopers with the best gear and 2 squads worth of everyone else at the highest or 2nd highest rank (plus another squads worth or lower ranks) with alot of the the best gear. I did screw around with he prices and healing times after missions but people will still at a minimum be injured for a few days and prices I only halved everything. did make the research prices a bit less ridiculous. only because it was a pain having to still be using the basic weapon almost when you are fighting mutons or higher. or the missions that had a large number of chryssalids (abduction or terror I don't remember). I didn't do anything to accuracy or health or armor because that is usually really getting into actually breaking the game stuff. I didn't do anything that effected the actual gameplay itself.

Well, Long War is a mod trying to fix a lot of the worst issues and apparently doing quite well with many, except for that hard coded stuff like aliens cooperating etc. which itself would reduce need to make them as tough since if they were able to flank you efficiently it would be serious murder given the small team sizes etc.

Long War is what I should've tried to begin with. GODDAMN fuck.

long war does allow you to upgrade your team numbers. I think you start with 4 (or maybe it is 6) and can upgrade to 8 for normal mission ( but on special mission like assaulting alien base level and the temple ship you can bring 12 for your team).

ahaha. so the xcom 2 devs did an interview about why pc only. one of the reasons? they wanted to do procedurally generated maps but couldn't (sounds partly to blame was because they were designing enemy unknown for 3 systems; pc, 360, and ps3). where doing pc only (at least for launch) will allow them to put all effort into a pc optimized game and not dumbed down for multiple systems. they might make an xbox one and ps4 version AFTER launch though those probably won't support modding because consoles. they do say it won't support gamepads at launch.

seems it will have PBR as well.
