More like hiring consultant firms that hire other consultant firms and law firms and maybe at some point someone actually hires an actual agent but not before 15 trillion have been spent making assessment, legal forms, etc.

that is why I save before I do anything on a mission. generally I save every few turns after that unless it's one of those crazy battles.

Now, that is why I liked Apocalypse. You could lose literally 10 agents on a single mission and still pull it off, like a really bad raid on an alien building or trying to raid a downed mothership.

Fucking 3 psimorphs and 2 micronoids in a single room. They immediately seize control of 5 agents you send in with their superior mind powers. Which is why you hire robots in the first place, because they can go in while your mind controlled buddies are shooting at them with anti-alien poison, they just go in and toss a couple of alien gas grenades at those mofos.

Or better yet, you haven't captured micronoid or psimorph yet so you have to send a team in with stun gas and stun guns and they have to get one alive regardless of casualties.

Capturing the alien queen wasn't exactly a walk in the park either. The fucker could take insane amounts of stun stuff and still had to be wounded on top of it to knock it out, all the while when more aliens were rushing in from their transportation system and the queen itself was slinging acid that could one shot a seasoned agent.

it's not that you can't afford to take the loss, I just hate to lose a guy. PFC whasisfuck? yeah, he can die, chief master sargeant Ikilleverything? I'm going to load a thousand times, restart the mission, and possibly reload to before I dropped on the mission and simply remove him from the team if I can't keep him from dying XD. Typically I try to minimize the many mutli reload, if I can afford to accept the results that occur, I often will, even if they're sub optimal. I just hope that the consequences for accepting the roll of the dice are marginally more reasonable, it's very frustrating when you do everything you can to minimize the chances of death and their overwatch guy one shots your guy with lightning reflexes wearing camo through a smoke grenade as he runs past to draw off fire. I'm okay with getting hit, it'd just be nice if they actually had -glancing- blows, as opposed to the way it usually is, if the alien hits you, your guy is toast.

Yeah i dont care if 1st 2nd rank guy dies. I do wish there was more of a range of damage kinda like a overall health but "where" it hits determines damage done. 2 rolls one to hit or not another for "where". Like getting hit in the hand/arm/leg shouldnt do as much damage as torso but couldnt lower combat potential/ba. Like arms injured could reduce shots, cause reloading to take longer. Legs injured? Reduce or completely remove movement (as in they have to lie there with gun propped on a tree trunk and be carried out or left behind). Im hoping for that too. Long war there is an option to make level of health effect combat effectiveness i think mostly in accuracy. Never noticed it doing anything to movement.

Like, I've been talking about Apocalypse and others and not for nothing. It had a system where you could be wounded to a body part, various body parts received different amounts of damage etc. and each body part had it's own armor. Guy running without helmet being hit in the head, well, it's rare but it happens. Also, stuff like having to cure the wounded legs before running off or having your agent be stunned or seriously injured agents losing consciousness and requiring someone else to help them.

Surely it was 'the right call' to remove this 'overly complicated and obsolete' system. Because it fucking worked and felt right and still does.

And actually being able to stuff extra rounds for your RPG in your backpack if you wanted and you could just toss them on the floor, give to the next guy etc. I actually often had Pvt. Shitfaced carrying stuff like HE devices, RPG rounds, extra smoke grenades, incendiary grenades and all sorts of shit so the other guys could get resupplied on the field.

Now, instead of dumbing it down, why not make a system that in addition takes into account the angle of impact so hitting someone at the center of back is different from hitting them at a high angle at the very top of helmet? Oh right. Because no, it's bad for ya bla bla.
