Should be good, you can always tweak the graphics down a little if it chugs, but I don't think it'll be a super graphics heavy game.

Well buy it from Steam, that way if you do have issues you can get a refund.

So bought it for the ps4 so my 5 year old can play.

    Early impressions:

Its good. Its scavenging survival / crafting / exploration game on a large scale. There is some fighting, but early in the game nothing is forced and you can easily flee, and its honestly (at least yet) not even worth it to fight anything.

You start out by having to fix your ship on planet, forcing you to walk around finding resources using your scanners. Mining is point your mining laser at stuff and you collect the resource. You can also shoot animals with it. On each planet you'll also find small outposts, cargo drops, monoliths, aliens to talk to and trade with, animals and plants of various kinds (Depending on planet type), and even crashed ships you can repair and use. You can spend hours and hours on a single planet if you want to find everything, and its not always easy to track it all down. Monoliths are cool, they have little text adventures. Any animals, plants or locations can be named and uploaded for a small amount of credits. You get a bonus for doing 100% on a planet.

Once in space you can fly around the solar system pretty easily, there's no solar system map so you just have to find the planet / space station on your hud and point your nose and fire off your in system drives. Fuel is plentiful in space for that. Space stations let you trade, and also buy ships (they're expensive at the start). You have to craft jumpdrive fuel to go between systems, but the jump itself is straightforward.

Its actually more complex than I anticipated, the resource collecting, charging your mining systems, life support, hazard shields, launch thrusters, pulse drives, etc, all require the right type of resource. So its a constant balance of resource hunting vs exploration vs going somewhere new.

No ship building, just crafting internal components for your ship, suit, and multi tool. More like mods.

The first couple of reviews I've seen have both said wait for a deep sale, or a major content patch. Both (ACG and Gameranx) have said its pretty boring as is.

Yeah, hopefully they'll patch in new stuff and fix the things that are borked up. For now I'll wait until I see a review that's more positive. Right now it's sounding like the game is pretty boring.

Sounds like he isn't much of a fan of survival games. It's unfortunate he encountered so many collision, clipping, and locomotion problems with the procgen content, though.

I'm not terrifically surprised that there's much more to see than to do, though - always one of my concerns with relying so much on procgen.

on the other hand, the game looks like a really chill way to spend time. Lots of pretty stuff to see. I'm still on the fence. Again, if I could use my Rift with this game I'd probably be on it in a heartbeat.

lol, people are so weird. first time i ever got ddos'd was in the division. we wiped the floor with some other squad when they jumped us at an extraction after we chatting briefly in VOIP (division doesn't mask IP with VOIP because reasons?). they came back and our whole team suspiciously dc'd moments before they attacked. we tracked them down, killed them repeatedly outside a safe house, then proceeded to get dc'd several more times 1 by 1 as they joked about payback in the local chat. reported them, of course, and pretty sure they got bans from my conversations with support, but morale of the story is that kids are fucking weird.

well to be fair they were amazing at first but the market has been completely saturated with them after the success of games like minecraft and dayz mod. but yeah, that's always been my main concern through all the development hype is "wtf do you do though?"

that's why i'm still interested, if it's an immersive game i can just chill and bum around in that's cool. reports just seem to be the game lacks authenticity. sadface

Yeah, its just gone mad. Over 5000 reviews and only 32% is positive. Most of it is about the game crashing and horrible performence. Most of them have bearely got 1 hour of gameplay
