most helpful positive review "The refund button works well." this is going to turn out very poorly I'm afraid
I wish that were true but the reality is that we are surrounded by sheeple who will just run to the next shiny thing and throw money at it. I've been guilty too often of it myself. Still I hope that the developer can salvage this, it seemed like it would be a nice game to relax in.
I'm still hopeful that the technical issues will get ironed out, and the people who enjoy the experience will get to play it, and enjoy it. Everyone is allowed to like the games they like, and I wish them well. And if it goes on sale some time in the future, or they patch in VR support, I'll probably pick it up.
My understanding is that it was minecraft but with spaceships and such. No clue why people thought it was going to be more. with that being said. What is the deal with it being single player. Im positive they said it was not single player and that you could meet other players. havent purchased the game yet. Maybe when it goes down to 30-20 dollar range
Fired it up and puttered around on a toxic, highly radiated rock world with tentacles, weird mantis-panthers and, of course, sentinels. I blasted rocks into materials. I blasted plants into materials. I blasted animals into materials. I blasted robots into materials. I fixed my ship. But rather than leave immediately.. I started searching for more info on the alien race that build the monoliths scattered around the surface. I ransacked abandoned shelters. I tampered with alien tech that showed me images of the past. I broke into labs to steal data. I destroyed more robotic sentinels. And it clicked.. This isn't "Minecraft in Space"... Spoiler This is a Rick Sanchez simulator.
I believe that comes from the fact that they have been a bit vague with what you can actually do in the game
So, far I like it. I haven't gotten far along, maybe 3 systems away. I'm also not big on hanging around for a long time. It sorta reminds me of "Starbound FPV" but without the building or back-story and the PC Races. I'm thinking they will add and flesh out more as the game moves forward. There isn't a "Quest" per se, but more like "motivators". For example: I scan the planet. I find an abandoned building. I find a terminal. Terminal needs to be fixed, and needs XYZ materials to fix. (The clue points to a reward.) Off to collect materials. Come back and repair terminal. Terminal points to an archaeological dig. Fly to Dig Site. Find buildings and a Monolith. Much loot. Talk to Monolith. Oooooh, mysterious message from "The Atlas". Go to this Star System waaaaay the fuck over there for more mysterious info. Ooookaaay, Psychic Stone Obelisk, I'm on my way. Neat, very neat. That's where I am now.
Yea performance on PS4 isn't great, but its playable, some texture stuff sometimes. It is a bit shallow, once you've done a star system, you've mostly done all the star system with the exception of the type of animals, minerals, and environment you'll find. I haven't progressed very far though. Basically they all have monoliths, outposts, shelters, manufacturing plants, etc. PC port looks like a shit show though.
In theory you can, though it's very improbable due to planets/universe being very large. Interaction was supposed to be pretty limited, though, maybe some conversation option and trading at a ship location. But in practice it's bugged from what I hear, and the interaction doesn't really work right. Also, just ridiculously hard to locate other people because "it's a great big universe and we're all really puny".
Limited Edition boxes came with a sticker covering the "online play" feature. FYI This company is shady as fuck, and they have yet to give any straight answers to questions about online play.
That does seem very shady to do. It is worse because they tried to cover it up with a sticker. Like they thought it wouldnt be pulled off? Would have been better to just have no sticker and just roll with it.
My random stoned thoughts so far… I wish there was a Journal or Ship’s Log. Like a little pull down box that you could type 20 words or less. Just for you personally to write in, like a shopping /to do list. That would be helpful. Also a more descriptive log maybe, I notice (when I’m not being dazzled by yet more eye candy, this game is flying scrolling wallpaper of awesome sci-fi beauty…) that I am Space sector… damn it, see? I don’t know where to find that info, even though I know I saw that info somewhere. Frustrating… Scale/Size….. I also would like to add at least temporary planetary markers (up to 10, 20?) that would at least stay active until you left the system. That way I can mark an area and not lose it as I fly to that Monolith. I flew over 3 mountains all clustered together, 2 gold and Emeril. They were YUGE! I spent forever trying to find them again, after about 30 minutes I realized I just flew over an equivalent amount of money in aluminum and copper looking for it. Plus, SCALE. There is a universe of infinite STUFF. So, yeah I would like temporary markers. Like I mentioned before the game is wondrously beautiful. It is vast, but a little thin. Sure I like a nice thick ham sandwich, but I’m not sure if I want to eat a ham sandwich 1/8 of an inch thick and 5 miles in diameter. But I really, really love ham sandwiches though… Now on to the cool stuff, I have close relations to the GEK. They seem to be the Galactic Traders and they have a fascination about culture. I have cool relations with the Korvax, seeing that we have just met. They seem very aloof and stand offish. They seem to be interested in just science stuff. I was rebuffed because I haven’t completed a planetary survey yet. Then there is the Vy’Keen, I really do think it is a play on the word “Viking”. It is just TOO obvious. They are a warrior race in every sense. Their culture is one of a constant war or testing against the “Abominations against Nature”, also known as the “Sentinels” that guard the planet. I do not get along well with the Vy’Keen at all. I have passed there tests of skill only to fail at communication skills. Warrior races are weird. For example: The young Vy’Keen warrior comes to you in distress. His unit is moving to engage in a conflict, death is certain. He offers his weapon to you. A- Take the weapon? B- Refuse the weapon? Well I took the weapon and he got pissed and hit me! Now he just stares at me angrily. So, screw these guys, fucking knuckle draggers. I came across an archipelago world and a lot of the stuff was deep under water. I found a beacon on land and I wanted to find an Outpost. PING, well there it is. Let’s go! I fly out the middle of an ocean with no place to land. The nearest land is like 5 hours on foot (or swim). Also I will not be able to swim that deep yet without a breathing apparatus (I didn’t have one yet). There were many instances of this on this planet. It was cool but sad. So shit like that has me hooked and the ever mysterious enigma that is “ATLAS”. PS: no one seems to be familiar with humans at all. Also, I wonder if you are human at all? Maybe you’re a construct or a clone of some kind? Like Data from Star Trek maybe even?
That actually goes along with the removal of online play. Since you can't control what real people say over the mic online multiplayer automatically gives your game a higher age restriction.
Yea the water planets are a bit annoying, swimming is so effing slow. By the way, faster movement tip if you haven't read it. Run, then while running hit melee hit and immediately followed by jump / jet pack. This will use the mini speed boost of the melee hit with the jetpacking, which keeps you at the speed you were going. So basically you can jetpack at 3x normal walking speed. It may take a few tries to get the timing right on the melee / jet pack buttons but it works. I restarted, if you have the pre-order bonus ship, you may miss out on the epilogue/intro stuff that gives you the antimatter formula. I basically got stranded becaause of it, but I was only 3 systems in so whatevs. DONT REDEEM UNTIL YOU GET THE ANTIMATTER FORMULA. I've only met the Vykeen, in a special relationship with them. As for Atlas vs Nana and whoever, just go that choice, unsure on what to go for.
