Yea next time I'll use my joystick to make it more fun, just have to figure out how to properly do looking
I have also come to the dark side that is Historical/Realistic. Just too many damn planes in one spot for arcade. Probably going joystick hunting soon. I think I'll start with that T16000M and make sure it's what I want.
Just be warned, your aim will suck for a while and you'll stall your planes a few times before you learn. Protip, when flying joystick, at least in virtual cockpit, when you pull a fast turn you'll see two horizontal grey bars appear and approach each other from the top and bottom converging on your reticule. When they touch, you'll stall. The harder you pull the closer they get. You can also listen for the wind rushing over your wings sound, when you hear that, stop pulling.
I knew I'd like Historealistic as soon as I got in the air for a practice run. Planes feel like planes and not magical space-ships from a land where B-25's can dogfight and Spitfires can completely ignore physics. That, and people playing, even the enemy, are usually quality individuals. Which is a nice change from the basement-dwelling-mouth-breathers in Arcade.
It's funny because following on from that you'd expect full-blown Simulator battles to be full of the most gentlemanly gentlemen ever to walk the earth. But it's not. It's silent. Nobody says a single word. (To give this some context, yesterday I played about 12 rounds of the Battle of Britain simulator event on both sides and of those I had one match where my teammates were an organized group and giving me their position regularly as well as a little banter about how I was the only one in a Bf109E-1 when they were all in E-3s. Aside from that, nothing. I even accidentally rammed an He 111 in my Hurricane and apologized profusely for it in the chat... nothing.)
I am guessing you have never played Russian planes in Historealistic Battles. It seems the Soviet planes bring out the absolute asshole out of anyone.
Wrong way round; absolute assholes only play Russian planes because they know they're OP as shit. (well, most of them)
Immensely preferable to the spoiled, soiled, and sophomoronic tirades dealt with in Arcade. Fixed: Spoiler
Would've gotten around to this yesterday but... well, last-minute assessments aren't going to sort themselves out, are they? So; I was planning on starting regular sorties on either a Friday or Saturday night; we won't stick with the Tuesday and Monday that we tried out since it's a bit too much hassle. Plus I have lectures and seminars and stuff to go to now so any late-night gaming knowing I have something to go to in the morning is pretty much out of the question. So, for the GMTers, how does Friday 6pm-8pm GMT sound? For the US timers, how does Saturday 8:30pm-10:30pm EST (1:30AM GMT) sound? Of course all these times are up for discussion and change if we find different times suit different people better. Also, would you all prefer two-hour or hour-and-a-half sortie lengths? I prefer two hours but it's up to you guys. I'll be posting in the SG 2 First Sorties conversation to make sure everyone sees this and has a chance to give input, and then once we've decided on a time that's regularly good for everyone I'll start a new conversation (since "First Sorties" is redundant now) to remind people about times on a weekly basis, usually the day before. Thanks all.
I may miss that time, my wife has claimed me for Saturday evening, since I have been out of town all week
Yes, but I was looking at the 8pm rather than the 6pm. Update btw, my fiancee surprised me this morning with tables at a fancy restaurant this evening. So I am no longer sure if I can attend. Depends on how long we linger and if she expects something more afterwards. I am expected at the restaurant at 5pm GMT, so we'll see I guess.
Hm. I can possibly make both of those in the future. Waking up a bit early for GMT, but cutting it a little close to stay for the whole EST time (gotta be at work by 23:00 EST). This weekend, however, I'm still on an early shift. 4a-noon PST. Good luck out there, pilots.
