There is absolutely zero interest in trying to defend something you liked against an endless wave of new arguments.

I don't want to associate this pointless debate with my favorite movies and games. Going to see it again and don't want to think about two hundred different reasons why someone else hates it.

 

There are a few short stories out detailing the past of the new characters.

 

Yeah. I'm looking forward to seeing the deleted scenes. I imagine there were plenty of cuts of resistance/new order scenes.

THE STARKILLER BASE WOULD HAVE KILLED EVERYONE ON THE SURFACE OF ITS PLANET THE SECOND IT FIRED! The atmosphere would have been super heated and blown away! And they power it by eating suns? Do they move the whole fucking planet to a new solar system every time they want to shoot it? If you could move an entire planet through hyperspace, WHY WOULDN'T YOU JUST USE IT TO FUCK OTHER PLANETS UP BY USING IT AS THE MOST AWESOME INVASION SHIP EVER?! Or at the least, you could deorbit other planets and then be on your merry way! Wait! WHY DIDN'T THEY JUST EAT THEIR SUN AND SHOOT SOMEONE ELSE WITH THE ENERGY?!?

I'm just annoyed they basically went with the Death Star again. For a third time. Four movies, three Death Stars. (Prequels can suck it.)

Also, can anyone explain to me how was Ben not turned inside out by Chewy shooting him in the fucking chest with a gun they spent the entire movie showing time and time again blows people the fuck up? Suuuuper inconsistent.

 

Spoiler: WTF - THIS MOVIE

• First problem I had: what the fuck is the deal with Rey stealing the Millenium Falcon and instantly knowing how to fly it better than Han. I can accept lampshading the extremely unlikely odds of it being parked right there and ready to fly and even her being able to fly it poorly... but COME ON! No way she should have been able to fly it that well... THROUGH A CRASHED STAR DESTROYER?!.... WHY?!
• So is Rey like the starchild or some shit? why the fuck is she able to repeatedly just "learn" how to do Force shit on her own with no actual instruction. WTF?! I like Rey as a character, but she seems annoyingly OP as fuck.
• When the fuck did Finn get lightsaber training and why was he *sort of* able to hold his own against Kylo Ren - cool scene but really kind of dumb.
• JJ solution for a final act deathmachine-thing was a 10x bigger deathstar? HOKAY! (no explaination needed, this is an incredibly dumb and lazy idea)
• did they actually manage to shorten the briefing/preperation for taking down the super duper deathstar compared to the Ep.4? i think the average masturbation session has more foreplay.
• also, what the fuck is the point of the "First Order"?; other than apparently blowing up planets for no goddamn reason and tracking down Skywalker, the movie gives zero explanation to their goals or actions.
• NOT SUPRISED AT ALL BY THE SCENE WHERE HAN DIES. I TOTALLY CALLED THAT SHIT! I'M FINE WITH HAN DYING, BUT WHAT A PREDICTABLY BORING RESOLUTION!

I have a lot of trouble with some of the same things. Rey's not a Mary Sue in my book, but she cuts it close with some things. Most egregious was the flying. But then again if she didn't fly that well, they would have died. But that's a failure of the writers.
I can except Finn being passable at CQC. Don't forget, he's a Stormtrooper, even if he didn't act like he'd even been one after he took his helmet off.
Fuck that new Death Star. It was a disappointing reveal.
I assume the First Order is a collection of Imperial remnants meant to rebuild the Empire. I'm sure some book somewhere explains it.

Boba Fett is proper dead. He's still in the sarlacc pit as far as Disney is concerned. Though some people did find his armor and recovere it, he's dead.

Me too. It was one thing after the other once the movie magic faded off.

 

Yeah, when you see mine, no one take it as being super angry. The caps lock is more for comic effect than any actual rage.

 

Oh, absolutely. I'm just currently voicing the things that combobulated me. There were a ton of things I loved. Mostly the fact that Abrams went with practical costume effects! I could kiss the man for that. That's where a lot of the Star Wars movie magic is at.

It seems like it's more full of straw men than good points. Which is classic CAD. But I think I said it before, I liked the movie because it was very Star Wars-y, but I'm disappointed it was basically a rebooted New Hope.

For all of the massive plot holes, etc that have already been mentioned...I am willing to ignore those for most of the same reasons as people have stated (even though I would prefer not to have to, but whatever).

I think the only lasting thing for me will be the *big rush* point that has been made, especially around Rey. Too much too soon at every turn which made it feel lazy. That said, we can't really judge that properly until the end of the trilogy to work out if they just had to get the Force Awakens bit out of the way ASAP to make room for the rest of the story.
On the pacing, we are already bashing themovie for copying to originals, so we would have only had more ammunition if Rey also went through her 2 movie learning about the force thing (i.e. Her Own Private Dagobah [B-52s remic])....even though that is what I would have liked better to get some actual attachment to this plucky underdog who was all pluck but lacking in any genuine underdog once she found the Falcon.

 

the only hint is that she looks about 7 when her father leaves on jaaku. so going off the old order she could have gotten some force training till she was 7. but yeah i don't think it's that likely and it certainly wouldn't be mind trick stuff.

 

and we'll go "why the fuck was this not the one in the theatres it makes so much more sense"

i thought it was funny how the bowcaster blew some stormtroopers up while others it just lanced and didn't blow up.

did anyone else have a problem with poe shooting stormtroopers that were 5 feet away from han and chewie (or maybe it was finn) AND THEY DIDN'T GET INJURED. ITS LASERS FROM AN X-WING THAT CAN DAMAGE STAR DESTROYER ARMOR. THE AIR WOULD BE PRETTY DAMN HOT.

also i think they mentioned in the movie that it was finn's first mission. that seems lazy. one mission of murdering people is supposed to make someone indoctrinated say "this is wrong"?
