    i actually feel like finn was still better at the lightsaber than rey. at least till the very end. actually i think he was better than kylo ren as a swordsman but ren was just using brute force and had more experience with the weapon. hell lightsabers have to be really really light.

    It was astonishing how well a beat up junker could take impact forces from a planetary body. And how quickly she took to flying a giant spaceship with an off-center cockpit. It takes a lot of time to get a feel for the dimensions of a vehicle and what you can and cannot fit it in to. Oh well, 'the Force'.

    Speaking of Finn, I was kind of hoping he would be the force user, not Rey. I guess that shows I didn't pay attention to the info beforehand. Also, why does Rey's mouth look like it was cut/pasted from Keira Knightley? I kept thinking I was watching her.

    Overall I was rather pleased with the new actors though. I thought they did a great job. And Luke looks badass in his 'old Jedi' getup.

    I actually felt like her acting was the weakest of the 3 new characters. hell poe was in the movie far less time and in those few minutes he had more impact. at least to me. not that she was bad or ruined the movie. her i know it was her first movie.

    I didn't think she was bad, personally. She ain't no Annie. The only thing that bothered me about here was the stupid fucking outfit armwraps. And that her next outfit after getting out of the rags was the same fucking style, just not rags. UGH. Dumb costume design on her.

    Back to positives.

    I thought the interaction between Leia and Han was great. You could feel that they had problems but still felt for each other. And when Han reached out and touched Kylo's face after being stabbed through the fucking heart - the feels were strong with that scene. Harrison Ford really fucking nailed it in this one.

    Their star wasn't destroyed. It was partially drained. It would have been left in it's place if the Starkiller Base wasn't destroyed, only slightly dimmer and colder.

    The base is not by far the only issue that defies our understanding of physics. Almost none of the ships should work, the light sabers shouldn't work, blasters shouldn't work. Artificial gravity shouldn't work etc. etc.

    Also according to Romans Mars and Venus are gods. ;)

    I thought they both did a great job in that death scene. Even if I totally knew it was going to happen. I'm assuming Kylo isn't dead, despite getting hit in the face with a lightsaber and apparently left on the exploding planet.

    Did anyone else feel like a lot of the story was rushed? Like they were smooshing a whole bunch of stuff together and not giving some of the little bits enough time to be impactful?

    No doubt. They cut somethings out. For instance Kylo walking out into the woods, hunched over, from the trailer. I image this would have been after killing Han. I forgot he survived a direct shot to the chest by a bowcaster. Here he looks like he's experiencing pain.

    Perhaps the lost to Rey isn't as far-fetched as I originally perceived.

    He WAS punching himself in the bowcaster wound to amp himself up and feed off the pain. I imagine there was a fair bit of blood loss, given it was dripping in the snow.

    Oh god yes. The entire movie felt rushed, but I've come to associate that with most of J. J. Abram's movies, with few exceptions.

    So...

    1) The base was feeding off the star via some type of wormhole / hyperspace tunnel, that can probably be moved to another star, it never said which star it was feeding from. But the weapon is still dumb. You failed twice so lets do it again a third time? Which leads me to the next point...
    2) The whole movie was about how fixating on the past is a mistake. Rey with her family, Finn running from the first order, Luke and his failures, Han / Leia with their son, Ben / Kylo with Darth Vader and his insecurities, the First Order with their super weapon. Too bad Abrams didn't take a hint and not make the entire movie an homage to the first trilogy, I mean...
    3) Droid lands on desert planet, saved by youngster with force potential. Run into chewie / han and millenium falcon. Asteroid chase scene = Star Destroyer wreckage. Han solo = Kenobi. Cantina scene at the forest world. Hoth nearly identically with evil super weapon approaching. Trench run (new hope) then inside the planet (battle of endor) with a small team to take out the shields. Ren's mask very Revan like, Rey very Bastille like from KOTOR.
    4) Ren was weakened by chewies weapon and lost a lot of blood. He was is also conflicted about being evil and killing his father, which made him a little unstable. That being said he looked pretty shit at the sabre duel, he may be stronger with the whole telekenisis thing that outright fighting.
    5) Ren wasn't the darth vader of this episode, he was the anakin. Remains to be seen if he resolves into Vader or post Endor Luke. The whole point of his mask and sword is to mask his insecurity, he is trying to live up to his family name and its crushing him, which is probably why he turned to the dark side to begin with. His taking off the mask is a visual cue of his internal struggle and insecurity as he looks like a little boy behind the mask.
    6) Those systems that were destroyed were not in the same system, thats just lets make it look cool magic from abrams.
    7) Ren did come on a little strong, but this is one of those 'The force will balance itself' moments where a random person takes on all the freaking force power in the universe to become the counter balance to the dark side.

    Questions:
    1) Why did Leia hug Rey when she came back, they didn't know each other...?
    2) I really hope Rey isn't related to anyone like Luke, thats too neat and 'circle of life'. Maybe Obi-Wan.
    3) Yea why the hell is Kylo named after Ben?
    4) Did Kylo betray Luke himself or was he just a follower of snoke at the time?
    5) Luke didn't seem that far away, why didn't Leia go say hi?
